Having grown up in TX, and eaten at some of the best BBQ joints in KC and St. Louis, I have found Colorado 's BBQ scene to be very lacklustre. So when I saw Burt's going in just down the street from me, I was rather excited. However, after they opened, they were plagued with poor reviews, so I never actually got around to going there. Today, I looked them up on Google, and was very pleasantly surprised to see a few more recent, more positive reviews. Even more of a pleasant surprise was the level of customer service I saw in action, with the GM replying to every review. So I popped down to check it out. I took my girlfriend, and we arrived on a Friday night around 5 with nobody else there, which had us a bit nervous. But we were promptly greeted in a very welcoming and friendly manner, and directed to the counter to browse the menu and order. The cashier was very friendly, and accommodating as we looked over the menu. The menu was really standard fare: ribs, brisket, burnt ends, chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, etc. Everything you would expect from BBQ. The prices were pretty average for the area too, around $12 for a meal meat, side, drink, bread. The only snafu occurred when the food was delivered. I received brisket rather than burnt ends, which was promptly corrected. My girlfriend got the brisket sandwich. The food was no disappointment. The baked beans were the best I've had in CO. The meat was tender, juicy, flavorful. The mac and cheese was pretty dang good, too. As to sauces, they have in-house Original, Sweet, and Spicy. The Sweet was the best one, with a nice spicy tang which licked at the edges of your tongue. The Spicy tasted overly of vinegar, reminding me of Tabasco, with the Original striking the balance. By the time we were halfway through our meal, the place had almost filled up, with several to-go orders. We had to wait in line to order a chocolate pudding and a banana pudding to bring home. All things considered, the overall experience rates about a 4.3. They openly acknowledge that they are still adjusting and working out hitches, with a great openness to feedback. The service is fast, efficient, and friendly. I would rate this as my second best BBQ experience in CO. Considering the number one spot is in Colorado Springs and Burt's is just down the street, I will most likely be visiting here more often than not. We will definitely be back. Y'all keep up the great work. It's not far off from a 5 star experience.
I really was excited for this place. Drove by for months waiting for the Coming Soon sign to change to Now Open. And I'm no BBQ purist giving bad reviews to any Q that fails to meet some lofty Texas, KC or Carolina standard. This was just a major disappointment. Ordered pork ribs, and pulled pork. Both were tough and chewy with just OK flavor. The burnt end baked beans were good, but quite vinegary tasting, The "Large cornbread" was about 2.5 inches square by 1 inch thick. Tasty, but barley enough to serve as a palate cleanser. If they are still open in 6 months, I will try them again. Perhaps they opened before they were "ready" and need some time to get their act together. I hope so.
My boyfriend and I went to Burt's for the first time yesterday, on a late Saturday afternoon, based on reviews here. There was only one other diner there and we walked up to the counter immediately, and a few others did come in while we ate. The place is small, with 10 tables for 4 inside and a small patio. It's clean and well decorated, with condiments you grab yourself including peanuts and a cucumber onion relish. I've been looking for good BBQ since I moved from Texas. I wouldn't say that Burt's was the best I've ever had, but it was good. I had the burnt ends, baked beans and potato salad. The baked beans were excellent. They put tiny bits of brisket in them, with a wonderful thick, sweet and tangy sauce. If you like baked beans DEFINITLEY get these! The potato salad is cubed potatoes in a mustard base, and is creamy and just the right amount of sour in your mouth. They also have a brown sugar yam side that I'd like to try next time. My boyfriend got the same thing I did except for cole slaw instead of the potato salad, which he said was good. The cornbread they give you is a big piece and is sweet and moist but ours was served so cool that the butter wouldn't melt on top. Now to the barbecue. Great burnt ends are hard to achieve, because the brisket is smoked then the end cut off, cut into cubes and recooked. The end result should be plenty of bark and juicy, tender cubed meat that falls apart. Burt's meat had bark and did fall apart but unfortunately was not very juicy and tender by the time it got to the table. It was a little dry. They have 3 sauces to choose and bring to the table yourself to moisten up the meat a little. I had the sweet sauce, which still had so much heat in it that I couldn't sop the meat like I wanted to. The flavor of the brisket was good, though. Next time I'll try the chicken. Last but by no means least, there are 2 options for dessert: banana pudding or a brownie. Although the gal who took our order was very attentive and nice enough to bring it to the table when she saw that we were about done, the banana pudding was a disappointment. While there was a nice whipped cream topping sprinkled with crushed cookie and 2 cookies stuck in on the top no actual bananas were harmed in the making of the pudding and there were no yummy mushy cookies in there either. All in all I'll give it another try to see if the rest of the meat is nice and juicy. Pros: nice clean place at the end of the strip next to Albertson's, rustic décor without going over the top, friendly staff who are eager to please, excellent baked beans, good potato salad, nice flavor to meat Cons: burnt ends on the dry side, no option of sauce for people who can't have/don't like spicy, cold cornbread, banana-less banana pudding,
I have eaten at Burt's numerous times. Their Beef Brisket and Ribs are outstanding. The pulled pork is really good too. Each time I have been to Burt's, I have always had great food and excellent service. Its nice to have a BBQ place like Burt's so close to home.
I saw two not so flattering reviews about Burt's, but wanted to try it anyway. They could not have been so wrong. The atmosphere is great and for fast food, it was amazing. Try the pulled pork sandwich with the original Burt's BBQ sauce. Get the mac and cheese and add a side of corn bread with a portion large enough for two. Give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.
Went to this place on a recommendation from a friend but I don't know what he was thinking. I paid 11 bucks for a very mediocre sausage and brisket sandwich. The brisket was dry and chewy and the skin on the sausage was so tough I couldn't bite through it. I had to peel it off and remake the sandwich after all the beef fell off. My son ordered a 9 dollar brisket sandwich but got pork instead. He was relieved after he tried my brisket. It wasn't worth the trip back to claim the 2 bucks. Next time I'll just choke down a McRib and move on. Mark
Came and left. I was expecting to see tons of smoke billowing from the smoke stacks. Showing the world that this so called, "Smokehouse" was really smoking their amazing barbecue. Well, you guessed wrong. From what I saw and tasted, it was a podunk, small, fast food joint. I even invited a guest to come and join the festivities. He even said that these were the worst ribs he has ever tasted, being from Kansas City. I could taste the freezer burn in the cheap meat. Also, when I took a bite of the poorly cookedmore like burnt ribs, the taste and feel of crunchy ash in my mouth was a turn off...almost wrong. They weren't even nice and soft. No meat falling of the bone. Just meat clinging to the bone as if it were violated. There was no savory flavor in the meat, just burnt charcoal like ash covered with barbeque sauce. A real shame is what it was...a real shame.
I ate here yesterday, March 13th and I will definatley go back. The pork and brisquit are amazing, and I am from Texas! The potato salad is awesome too!
Very expensive... Won't honor free drink they sent in the mail.... Franks red hot repacked as they're spicy sauce.. Nice staff, gourmet price for BBQ doesn't work though.
