Please leash ur dog, I almost saw a poor Labrador puppy die bc it wandered off the stairs, into the falls, slipped, & fell an entire 10-15 foot level. Thank God it landed in water & only slid down 1 level, it could've been so much worse. Falls were great, hike was cool, but please please leash ur dog!
The pics online during high flow show a very different picture from what we found during a week when most local falls are flowing great..so really make sure theres been a great amount of rain fall if you want a ohh ahhh fall experience. Trail begins up.
Falls is a trickle . Filled with more trash than water. Not worth the hike up.
Came upon this park the other day, unexpectedly, and decided to give it a try. We read that buttermilk falls was only a short 1.2 mile loop hike. Quick and easy. A wide open road begins the start of the trail with clear markings throughout. It will get a little steep in the beginning. Keep in mind that there are multiple trail heads at this park, so if you only want to see the falls, follow the Blue Trail. We noticed a lot of bugs on the hike, so definitely bring your bug spray. There was also a lookout point from which you can overlook the town. Totally worth the effort!
This is a wonderful little hike that isn't too long or too challenging, we were able to do it with all our kids, including our youngest who's 3.5. If you want to just get to the waterfall, the easiest path is on the left side of the parking lot, it's at the end of the lot. The initial climb is a little steep, but doable, that path will get you to the waterfall, at which point you can either turn back or continue the loop all the way around and back to the parking lot. If you start on the right side of the lot, expect somewhat of a climb - you'll be on the white path initially W on the map. If your looking to eventually make it to the waterfall, then don't miss the blue fork B on the map, this will take you all the way to the top of the hill, the scenic overlook, and then down to the waterfall. It's a little more challenging than the easier left waterfall only path, but not by much.
Great hiking trail, medium difficulty. Took about 35 minutes to reach the peak with a very curious dog by my side... meaning, you can probably reach the peak sooner if your partner is not sniffing all the rocks on the way up. The hiking trail has a lot of roots running through it, so be careful. Also, the trail can get muddy. Overall, a good hike, but not perfect.
Nice falls close to home. The park is nice, but you can hear the traffic. You can walk through the woods from here to the tweed tunnels. Restrooms: No restrooms
I took my 65 yr old lady with me on this hike. I am in my 40s it wasn't to bad for myself but my lady had a very hard time getting up to the dry waterfall. We decided to continue on the blue trail and it is pretty steep and very rocky. Be careful especially of the big mountain boulders and the roots from the trees when walking can be very dangerous. We walked to the very top of the mountain. Breathtaking views. We walked the entire way 3.7 miles in total to the white trail and back out to the parking lot. Definitely worth it and fun, just be careful.
Nice small County Park with easy to moderate trails. Waterfall that's running well in the spring or when there's enough rainfall. Good views at the top. Parking lot isn't big, so come early on the weekends.
Great short trail to the falls and will have to explore this park more well marked trails
