A community space that nurtures cultural expression in all its forms: visual, musical, graphic, performing, and literary arts.
"A PLACE FOR EVERYONE!"
Twenty years ago, with youthful and unfettered optimism two Latinas opened up a Cafe con Libros Bookstore in downtown Pomona. A close friend had asked, “If you could open a business what would it be?” Both women were in the beginning years of their careers as educators and knew exactly, despite no previous entrepreneurial experience, that opening a bookstore would be the dream. The focus of the bookstore reflected their experiences as women of color, as first generation college grads, and as immigrant advocates. It became a bookstore that featured books reflecting the multicultural community Southern California. This was the dream, this was the service they wanted to bring to their community: a bookstore which celebrated the stories and traditions of people of color. Although the bookstore closed after several years, the mission of these educators remains the same. Presently, the ladies are more experienced and have gained the wisdom that only the trials of life can bring. These dreamers, Adi and Pati, plus a core group of supporters are bringing Cafe con Libros Press back to Pomona. The new CCL will be a non-profit organization determined to provide a space that creates community, that nurtures creativity, and literacy in all its forms.
