Cafe At Your Mother-in-Law offers a unique fusion of authentic Russian, Korean, and Uzbek cuisine in an environment that will make you feel right at home.
While strolling through Little Odessa in Brighton Beach, you may notice a bright orange awning decorated with Cyrillic characters and a blue teapot. The Russian lettering roughly translates to Cafe At Your Mother-in-Law, where a unique fusion of traditional Korean, Russian, and Uzbek cuisine join forces to create a dining experience unlike any other in Brooklyn.
The history of the unusual fusion of cultures found at Cafe At Your Mother-in-Law’s dates back to the 1930’s, when Stalin forcibly relocated thousands of ethnically Korean families from the eastern border of the Soviet Union to Central Asia. These families, already familiar with the zesty flavors of authentic Korean cuisine, eventually began adopting some of the more tepid ingredients found in Russian cuisine and found that the flavors worked in tandem to create delicious and balanced meals.
