When Salomon Ramos moved to the States over 30 years ago from El Salvador, he did it because he wanted a shot at making something better for his family. Little did he imagine he'd be running his own restaurant serving authentic Salvadoran and American food at 366 Broadway in Revere.
These days, Ramos' biggest concerns are making sure the avocados for his homemade guacamole have ripen and that he has enough shellfish for his "drunk shrimp" plate. But when Ramos family first settled in Cambridge where they still live, he was working at least two jobs, washing dishes and manning a manufacturing plant, saving money for his family's future. Eventually, Ramos signed up for English-language classes, deciding that to be a success here he would have to be able to communicate clearly. With a new knowledge of English under his belt, Ramos moved unto his next goal: enrolling in culinary courses to foster the love of foods and food preparation he had developed while working at restaurant and hotel kitchens.
Once the move from Cambridge Street in Cambridge to Broadway in Revere, in 2001, they had already established a host of regulars from nearby businesses who come in regularly for the chicken quesadillas, steak burritos, their array of tacos and their now-ever popular PUPUSAS!
All food is proudly made by order they come in, fresh and from scratch. Nothing is prepared in advance to be preheated; that's a NO in Ramos' kitchen.
Ramos prides himself in his food preparation and in finding new and unique ways to showcase the sharp flavors of his dishes. From the looks of his satisfied customers, he is succeeding.
