Flavors of Sri Lanka

Description

Sri Lankan cuisine is one of the complex cuisines of South Asia. Due to its proximity to South India, the cuisine of Sri Lanka shows some influence, yet is in many ways quite distinct.

Sri Lanka has long been renowned for its spices. In the 15th and 16th centuries, traders from all over the world who came to Sri Lanka brought their native cuisines to the island, resulting in a rich diversity of cooking styles and techniques.

The island nation's cuisine mainly consists of boiled or steamed rice served with curry. This usually consists of a "main curry" of fish, chicken, beef, pork or mutton, as well as several other curries made with vegetables, lentils and even fruit curries.

Side-dishes include pickles, chutneys and sambols. The most famous of these is the coconut sambol, made of ground coconut mixed with chillies, dried Maldive fish and lime juice. This is ground to a paste and eaten with rice, as it gives zest to the meal and is believed to increase appetite. - Wiki

The owners are always friendly. Three of us shared two veggie combos $15 each and one chicken tikka w glass noodles and lentils. Wow, the meal was incredibly filling and delicious!!! Support awesome local family businesses like this!
A hidden little gem on Foothill blvd. Excellent food, very good family oriented service. If you like a taste of Sri Lanka, cafe Lanka is the place to visit.
Delicious food and super friendly owners. Made me feel at home! I loved the okra dish and lentil dal. My family loved the shrimp curry and tikka masala with noodles. It was a special treat!
I love this place! The food is diverse and Very tasty. South Asian, so similar to Indian with a twist. Great for both vegans and meat eaters. Atmosphere is casual, though I generally take out. The 2 people who run the place are very friendly, so the entire experience is great.
Delicious food! My mutton curry was tender and full of flavor. The sauce was perfect, just the right amount of spice for my non-spicy tastes. The lentil daal was also delicious, and the avocado water refreshing. The is a good balance between vegetarian/vegan selections and meat dishes, which works well for our "mixed" family. Prices were good. The owners were very accomodating and patient--our party came in two groups about 10-15 minutes apart--and didn't mind that the children ate from the the parents' plates. Excellent food, nice owners, spotless restaurant!
Cafe Lanka is a cute little place out of the way tucked inside of a small Plaza. It is easy to miss, but worth tracking down. The parking lot is small, but I didn't have a trouble acquiring a spot right up front. The inside is somewhat sparse, but clean and neat, and the furniture is well-maintained. Casual atmosphere. The menu is simple, but robust with plenty of choices for vegetarians and vegans. The food itself was fresh very flavorful, and tasted incredible. This is not like the taste of Indian food, though it is somewhat similar. It was unique, and I enjoyed it along with some tasty fluffy rice. Please note however, that even the Roti here is *not* vegan. But they had a vegan lassi, which is a nice option. To drink I only had water, but I could tell it was not tap water. The only thing that was lacking was the service. It took a really long time for someone to come take our order even though the place was empty. The server never came back during our meal. Then we had to track someone down to get our bill even though at the time we were there, the whole place was empty because we went at an odd time of the day for lunch. Everything was reasonably priced. Overall, very worth it.
Excellently prepared and delicious Sri Lankan food. It was a unique dining experience for me. They do seem understaffed. I saw one table go uncleaned for hours with the last party's leftover food on it. I would definitely reccommend checking it out.
Delicious food! Great service! We had the combo plates and loved everything we had. I can't wait to go back with more people so I can try more of the food. The cake was delicious also!
Awesome food , we drove 25 miles to find this place and the food was yummy especially my favorite idiyappam
Do not go here if you want to try Sri Lankan food .Cafe Lanka fails to do justice to the complex falovors that South Asian cusine contains. The food lacks falvor and it is definitely not fresh. My stomach got upset after a while. Service is slow and not friendly.
