This is my first meal here in the United States, I'm in love with the food here. Thanks to the Chef Ms Bernadine who was so sweet & welcoming, even the staff is very friendly. The best place. Highly recommended!
My wife and I were hankering for some good 'ol Southern Comfort Soul Food but what we found at Cafe Metro wasn't good, it was stupendously delicious!! Oh what a great gem this place is; located in Teaneck's Cedar Lane. Ben was our server, a very nice, amiable and polite young man, definitely a keeper. For beverages my wife got a home-brewed Ginger beer, I opted for hot cup of Ginger Tea it's cold out. She knew right away that her Ginger beer was original and made fresh! My Ginger tea had pure pieces of Ginger. The drinks hit the right spot. For entree she ordered the Fungi, which is corn meal with mixed Okra, it came with Saltfish & Eggplant. Oh boy! What a treat! Her meal was full of flavor and the Saltfish tasted fresh. I ate Brown Stew Chicken, it came with rice & Peas, sweet plantains, & vegetables. Oh so much flavor, this food was superb!! Kudos to Bernadine, she's a master-chef that one notices that she cooks with love. We have found a new and amazing place to eat some Antiguan food!
1st time having Antiguan food. Bernadine is the owner and chef. She was so passionate about cooking you can taste it in her food. Fungee with Salt Fish and Eggplant was so good. I love anything made with corn meal. Grits, Polenta, cornbread Soon as Ben our waiter said made it cornmeal I was sold. :D Brown Stew Chicken with Rice and Peas was delicious as well. The Ginger Beer and Ginger Tea are both strong and delicious. Glad we try this restaurant and can't wait to try something else on the menu.
Food is very good, people are very kind. Just want the place has some music. It was so quite. Hope many people come and enjoy this place!:
Great local Antiguan food made by Chef Bernardine. The food is delicious and the service was great. Thanks Chef Bernardine and Breanna for making my mom's birthday a special occasion.
Never eaten Caribbean styled cuisine from Antigua before. Went with traditional chicken curry meal with rice & peas, side of veggies, plantains, and rum cake. The meal was surprisingly savory and scrumptious!! The flavors, herbs, and spices were deliciously balanced throughout the entire meal. The chicken tenderly melted off the bone and I had to ask for more gravy because it was that gooood!!! They have to be a little careful/backoff with the salt- just a tad, but other than that the flavor palette was very well done like I wanted "seconds." Even the tea-real ginger root, honey, lemon-was on point! The portions were ample, service was excellent with frequent check-ins, and prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is very clean, friendly with an eclectic crowd. Wheel-chair accessible, definitely family friendly with free WI-FI. I understand they have a Sunday Brunch for $11.99 from 11:00am- 3:00pm. I plan to check it out again very soon and bring some friends and so should you!!!
ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA Eat the World NYC review: A combination of breakfast, burgers, pan-southern and pan-Caribbean cuisine makes up most of the menu here at Cafe Metro to make sure a net is cast wide enough to stay in business. But make a point to come here from Friday to Sunday when some special Antiguan fare is available from the home country of the chef and owner. This ducana with saltfish is a unique flavor combination, but they also have fungi, fish soup, and curry conch.
Stopped by for lunch. Chicken curry was good and the ginger tea was excellent.
The food was fantastic. Service was great. I got the curry shrimp, and they were cooked perfectly. They seemed to be out of a few things, but I'm chalking that up to the items being popular. Looking forward to visiting more often.
Food was very good! I understand Oxtails are expensive, however 4pieces of Oxtail for 19.99 not acceptable. So I would have given 5 stars , portions of food took it down to 2.
