I'm not sure what has happened in the few years since the Diner received its kind reviews, but I have never had a worse dining experience, either in food or service. Working a convention which was held at the Red Lion, I stopped in with five friends/coworkers to grab a bite to eat between events. They all ordered milkshakes, while I ordered a mushroom burger and fries, and bottomless coffee. We were rushed to make our order in the first place, the waitress standing by awkwardly as we looked over our menus. After our order was taken, the waitress disappeared for forty-five minutes. No water was served before or during that time. There were no other customers being served, nobody else in the diner at all, so I cannot imagine where she went. When finally our orders arrived, I was dismayed at the sight of everyone's milkshakes- six-dollar milkshakes, mind you- which were served in eight-ounce cups, only three quarters full and melted. My coffee, lukewarm, was filled once and then ignored. The mushroom burger was a petty thing; the patty greasy and crumbling, cheese unmelted, with leathery mushrooms and onions cooked into greasy shoestrings. The deli-style bun was the only redeeming feature, bun even its generous lower half was so saturated in the grease dripping off the fixings that it fell apart as I lifted the burger. I asked to make a complaint to the manager, and was curtly informed that Red's Diner "Was not in the business of taking complaints". The manager refused to see us at all, and no other serving staff could be found. I have never before been in a restaurant so atrocious as to warrant no tip at all; have never considered that a level of service might exist which warranted such measures. Red's has proven me wrong.
