Great place for affordable and tasty and simple dim sum. They also have a HK style breakfast that isn’t super popular. And they have great service! An all-around great place to eat and dine with friends or family.
FOOD I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese, pretty standard baked dish in most cha chang tang places. Didn't stand out all too much. I also had a Hong Kong-style milk tea, which was nice. AMBIANCE The restaurant is large and well-decorated. There are numerous tv screens although not all of them were on when we went. SERVICE Can't say much. We went relatively late in the day when it wasn't crowded, so the staff were not super attentive. Not terrible, not great. VALUE Overall, a bit pricey, but I don't know if you'll find a cha chan tang that isn't around here.
Old favorite place to come before or after SFO flights. Chinese Cantonese comfort food at its best. Love that pork and bean sprout pan fried noodles; it's the house specialty and a must order for me every time there. Their home made chili sauce is a killer too.
The good: they offer all day dim sum The bad: They charge $20 for pea sprouts. Terrible service where the lady brought 4 wrong dishes to our table and blatantly ignored us when we let them know dishes weren’t ours. They also missed 2 dishes that we did order. They menu says automatic 18% tip for parties of 6 or more. They charged us 18% gratuity with our party of 5. When we brought it to their attention, they said oh yea it’s parties of 5 or 6. We asked them to correct it and she said your party is 5 or 6. We live down the street and would come here often. Disappointed in a local business that is dishonest. We won’t be returning again.
We've eaten here multiple times for lunch and brunch. They have dim sum for brunch, and they are pretty decent. The rest of the menu is like ABC which doesn't have dim sum in downtown San Mateo, and the price is a little bit cheaper, but the portions are smaller, so about the same value. The selection here is a bit larger. As for taste, it's about the same as ABC. If you are hankering for some "comfort food" this place is a good option to try.
The food was decent. The boiled dim sum was a little squishy. Now, the fried ones were tasty. The service could use improvement. Not engaging at all. Overall, I doubt if I will be back.
First off, the egg tarts were heavenly. The rest of the dim sum was quite good, and it was nice that they have non dim sum items so that you're not loading on carbs and oil. Food was good and interior was nice.
Perhaps Hong Kong style food doesn't suit me as I found this place rather plain. Food was decent, though nothing special. Sunday seems to be a slow day, so there was only one or two wait staff. Our orders for the table of 8 came out one by one, so some folks finished before others even started... Probably a place better suited for family-style meals. We left soon after our meal was over because a large 20+ family group with too many kids were seated next to us. The noise level went from 0 to unbearable.
Terrible service, almost to the point of throwing customers out. May be lack of staff. But that is not an excuse. The worst part is that the abuse is actually coming from the owner herself. The food is so so, nothing to write home about. We actually ordered a lot of dim sum and rice. Would I go there again, try not to unless every place around is full.
Changed their way to run the cafe. Now mainly serve Dim Sum , Chinese fry noodle, wonton etc but still have steaks, soup, toast, coffee n tea etc. Dim Sum is as good as famous restaurants. GOOD EAT.
