Born and raised in New Orleans, living in Montana for the last 18 years, we are highly skeptical and judgmental of any restaurant in Montana that claims to serve Cajun food. Until we found Cafe Zydeco, we thought they didn't exist. Cafe Zydeco's gumbo, hush puppies, and beignets passed with flying colors for authentic Cajun flavor. I will say that fish doesn't belong in seafood gumbo, but it didn't disappoint. The shrimp was plentiful and the roux delicious. The hush puppies were the best, rivaling any that we've ever eaten. Overall, our party of 4 ordered the gumbo, crayfish Etouffee, shrimp po-boys, and hush puppies. Cafe Zydeco served up genuine Cajun food with friendly service at a good price. If you want some good Louisiana cooking that you don't have to prepare yourself, give CZ a try. Now, if only they could get "real" french bread. :
I picked this restaurant because they had dog friendly patio seating & I knew my husband would love the food. I'm pretty picky but after talking with the wonderful server I decided on the shrimp & grits. The "gravy" was a little spicy for my taste. I had never tried grits & they were so good! The creaminess worked well with the spicer gravy & I love shrimp any way it comes. And the hush puppies were so yummy again a "new" food for me!
Delicious! I’m in New Orleans again! Loved the no nonsense bayou vibe. The food was fantastic. Seriously good. Eat here and be happy. Vegetarian options: Great options in the appetizer section. Mostly fried but delicious.
It was recommended by some friends of ours, so we stopped in for lunch. The service was great, lot's of food on the menu. They were really good sandwiches and could only eat half of the food. Tasted great. Definitely will go back next time I am In Helena.Food: 4/5
We used to love Cafe Zydeco when downtown and in its westside location but our recent experience had spice-less "cajun" food, disappearing servers, and left us wondering what happened to the old recipes and cooks. The hushpuppies are still addicting.Food: 2/5
I love this place since we’ve been coming to Kathy‘s article I have brought so many new people in saying you have to try their Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. Since then I’ve also tried many other things that I love. Also, 100% the best customer service in Helena Montana.
I ordered a simple grilled cheese for 6 dollars. You get a hoagie roll with half melted cheese. No fries, I kindly asked for a side of ranch, and the server stared at me, said nothing, and walked away. When I asked to have my grilled cheese cooked longer, they said no, they could not do that... ummm. That's the way they cook it. "Too bad she doesn't like it," said the owner. Wow! Enjoy everyone, go see for yourself.
Food is wonderful. I like the portion size but the friends I went with thought the portions were light. But the flavor is great! The food came out very fast and you bust your own tables which is fine with me. Atmosphere is ok, you have a bunch of funny signs to read and laugh about.Food: 5/5
This place is amazing. The food is out standing. So far we've had the gumbo, pasta zydeco, All That Jazz Po Boy, fried green tomatoes and best of all the best tasting alligator bites. The staff is very friendly too.
