Located in the Northern California East Bay, Cakes by the POUND Bay Area uses only the freshest ingredients (including real butter, cane sugar, farm fresh eggs, unbleached flour, and the purest of flavorings) priding ourselves on making homemade desserts from scratch. Each pound cake, pie, pudding, and cupcake is made with love, care, and real butter (oops! Did I already say that?) in our kitchen with the hopes of blessing all that choose us to satisfy a sweet tooth. In the first bite you can feel it, taste it, which eventually leads to another bite and another. With one baker and one kitchen, we are a delivery only establishment, unless you have arranged for pick up. We accept cash or credit (through Square). You may also pre-order using Paypal. ~Meet the Baker~
Owner, LaShawn Raybon, has had a lifetime love affair with cooking. Any chance she get's you can find her in the kitchen creating something wonderful. She is known for her gumbo, mixed greens, pound cakes, and her never say no attitude, "If I can't make it, I'll learn to." LaShawn never thought she was a baker. A single mother of a son and daughter, LaShawn has done everything from fashion design to Hip Hop, graphics and administrative work to teaching Sunday school, with only one goal,
"Lord, let me be a blessing to you and all that surround me."
Taking one family Pound Cake recipe and turning it into over 25 Cakes by the POUND Bay Area creations, LaShawn's only formal training has been that of her family and friends. Her family owned the Golden Lily Restaurant in the San Francisco Fillmore district in the mid-80s, a cross between a juke joint and family style restaurant. Fond memories of Bobby Blue Bland playing and everyone cheerful with food everywhere. "I've been searching my whole life for that experience. And well, I figure, why not create it myself." This is what Cakes by the POUND Bay Area is set to accomplish.
