Perfect place to be if you are a book lover. I visit this library quite often. It has tons of books, resources, and writing for your research work. It's huge and spacious, where you can find your peaceful corner to sit and read. They have wifi and a printer facility also. So you can look and print what you need. As a computer is attached there, you can also send an email. I always spend hours there looking at videos, newspapers, magazines, and publications. Also, you can find many books, maps, and artifacts related to California's history.
Perfect space for getting work done. Public wifi, huge library of legal resources, and book scanners. The library also offers access to CEB OnLaw and HeinOnline over wifi.
A terrible experience since I got in. I haven't even been able to read my book yet: British Possessions and Collonies by Atkins', simply because the underlying motif at this particular library is one of retribution and uncomfort. Seems like the policy in house is focused around eviction and pesamism simply so that they might "persuade" the patrons to leave before the building closes and intimidate the readers by aggressively searching their person and bags before you even get in... suggesting they have to leave their vape pens outside so they won't use them regardless of asking. Too much to imagine their discretion ever being present here. Dogma, doctrine or shortsided house policy
I explored the Library and Courts Building in early December of 2017 and '18 and absolutely love the architecture! Completed in 1928 to accommodate the expanding state library, the building combines Neoclassical architecture with early infusions of Art Deco. The building's Memorial Vestibule is decorated with 16 beautiful black and gold Italian marble columns topped with bronze urns. The murals right above them depicting war through the ages are the work of San Francisco artist Frank Van Sloun. The second floor corridors are beautifully decorated with marble drinking fountains and outstanding murals by Maynard Dixon. The magnificent Gillis Hall, located up on the third floor and spanning the entire north side of the building greets visitors with soaring ceilings, gilded classical columns capped with Roman Ionic capitals, and original bronze chandeliers with the highlight of the room being Maynard Dixon's 1928 masterpiece titled, "A Pageant of Traditions". The woodwork in the courtrooms is absolutely gorgeous. The original courtroom on the fifth floor is constructed of gum eucalyptus wood decorated with a beautiful gilded dome and stately pilasters donned with magnificent Corinthian capitals. Though the court was supposed to meet in the fifth floor chamber, the Chief Justice at the time refused to meet in the building's "attic", so an expensive and stately reproduction chamber was constructed also of gum eucalyptus on the first floor, and functions as the courtroom today. This magnificent building is open to the public and I therefore strongly recommend that you pay a visit to the library so you can savor the sights of the stunning murals and woodwork.
Just walking past the CalifornianState Library, from the banners on the street, it would be worth visiting and checking out inside. Cheers!
google map is wrong. The security says it closes on Monday and Friday.
This Local library, is great. So there are various things to do for young people in the neighborhood to do. Quite a lot of area to discover or examine quitely in silence. Along with the lots of writings, there are other sources to help you examine or obtain your tasks accomplished. Printing services are readily available, as well as basic computer systems linked to the web. Look, print, or send e-mails. With a variety of Video, newspaper, micro film, , publications, magazines, dvd, , at your fingertips, there is plenty for you to get into right here. Pretty much every area ought to have such a helpful and also stunning resource offered to the people who live there. It is an embarassment that due to absence of unique financing, several are required to cutback, or close down. Make certain you support your library as much as you can, as these essential resouces require all they can get, and are disappearing at a rapid rate. When I was a kid, I would invest hrs on end, examining, playing, and also studying. The advancement of modern technologies has actually allowed us to perform lots of activities convenitely in our houses, however there are still lots of actions you can not due without your public library. Lots of people will not miss them until they are gone, once they are gone, it's almost impossible to get them back. Cherrish your public library as well as battle to maintain its pressence in your neighborhood. Assist your public library.
When the Library was open, we went on free museum day, and it was super cool! I love reading, so for me this was awesome! They have lots of cool stuff from califonia's history!
This is a research library, for research related to the State of California. They also house many books, maps and artifacts related to California's history as well as a few truly special museum pieces including John Bidwells maps and books and a complete folio of Audubon's birds!
They had a letter from my Great great grandfather's business in their historical collections!
