The Canaan Fire Department is located on Route 118 in Canaan, NH. The Department protects the communities of Canaan, Orange, and Dorchester and is a member of the Upper Valley Mutual Aid Association.

We respond to approximately 250 fire calls each year. We have about 35 members and are dispatched by Hanover Regional Communications Center.
The department was formed in 1890 along with a fire hydrant district.Through the years, the department has seen many changes in Canaan including the reorganization of the fire department, twice (1924 and 1935). A train wreck in 1907, a major fire in 1923, and the destruction of the Canaan Inn (1977) and Elementary School (1980).
