Friendly waitstaff, however, the food was simply not good. The egg in my egg and avocado dish was very undercooked, and the skillet potatoes were completely unseasoned. The low lighting doesn't mask well the tattered benches and tables sticky underneath. Definitely not worth 15-19 USD per plate as the menu reflects. Note that an elevator is available; the restaurant is on the second floor and the stairs are uncovered. One redeeming quality, they have great chips and salsa, and what look like decent margaritas.
Well, I used to go to Canyon all the time back in 2009-2012 for their happy hour. Their food was never that great, but they had a fantastic happy hour. I don't know what changed... but they yanked all the appetizers from their happy hour menu and cut their glass sizes in half. I've also twice had the server try to charge us full price for a happy hour margarita, over double. I don't know what the owners are doing over there, but they messed up big time. This used to be the place to hang out after work and relax and drink and eat. Now it's dead inside from 4-7. Whoever made this change needs to change it back or this restaurant will go under within a year or two. Now, no one eats there at all or does happy hour... At least the HH was drawing in guests before.
Food is bad, service is terrible god forbid you get any of these newbie so called waiters with not one day of training drinks are sour a lot like the overwhelmed bartenders attitude Restrooms are a disaster area with the scent to follow. We had a party reserved , they never had our reservation, once we did got seated some rookie Waiter dropped all our food party of 7 on the ground so we left. Worst experience ever. Poor attention to detail. Poor staff attitude, poor training, improper business practices and plus I saw A MOUSE in the restaurant and gnats in out patio drinks. This is the worst place in town to lose your money at. I don't recommend it at all for any who wish to have a good dining experience.
We arrived about 15 minutes before closing and decided to go to another place. The owner spotted us heading through the parking lot. He was on his way to the cafe. Asked us where we were going. We told him and he said, no we're not closing, come with me, I'm the owner. He bought us a round of drinks. We had a great time and came back again before we left Houston. Drinks are great, desserts are awesome, and the chips are definitely not boring. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Houston. Wish we had a Canyon Cafe in San Marcos!
Food was pretty bad, completely lacked flavor. My husband ordered enchiladas and I ordered the chicken quesadillas. The chicken in my quesadillas tasted as it it was on the verge of spoiling. Even the tea was weak. This was my first and last time dining here. The location is great, loved sitting out on the patio, chips and salsa were also great... but the food was unexpectedly bad.
Pretty bad experience. Tried emailing restaurant and received no response. Noticed bad smell on entering establishment, but assumed it would go away. Service was rough to say the least, food was luke warm, a server was not attentive glasses were empty. Multiple employees were on cell phones and not paying attention to guests. Very few people in place unusual for 7pm on a satuday night They were out of the majority of deserts, so we passed on this. The big problem was when we were leaving. My wife went to use the ladies room downstairs and wouldn't even use it as the smell was so bad apparently this was were the smell was originating from. Have had great service at the San Antonio location. Expected much better from this one.
Canyon Cafe is a pretty low-key place: Tex Mex cuisine and all that. I had carnitas as well as chicken verde enchiladas. The food was excellent, though the chips and salsa left a lot to be desired. What was really outstanding: the service. My waiter was impeccable; what one would expect in a much fancier restaurant, and the rest of the staff treated me like a king. Highly recommended if you are visiting Houston and need a quick Tex Mex place to eat!
I had a wonderful time with my family and friends. The new Happy Hour which includes the entire restaurant, instead of the the old which, was just the patio and bar, is a breath of fresh air. We were made to feel like we were a regular even though it was our first visit. Our friends are frequent visitors and they noticed an immediate change in the atmosphere from a month ago. Waiter said that they had a new GM and he was breathing new life into the place. The new GM, Wes , came by and spoke with us and shook our hands and thanked us for coming in as we left. Keep up the Good Work, we will be back! Oscar was our server and he was outstanding.
We had a great experience at Canyon Cafe. Eric B was our server, and he gave us great suggestions on what to have as it was our first time at the restaurant, and he was very attentive. The queso with fajita meat is great, their orange beso magarita was excellent, ribeye with chile rub, both kinds of salmon, and fish tacos...our table was very pleased with our meals. I would recommend trying this place, be ready to climb stairs, but they do have an elevator as well.
Had the chili reano variant it was pretty good. But the service was the best I have had in as long as I can recall. The waiter was on my table every time I needed and checked a few times when I did not. I am on a special diet and asking for the food to be prepared without starch or suger was taken in stride and the food was delivered hot and as desired.
