Got there Wednesday afternoon just after pretty much everyone else had left. Quiet and clean. Highly recommend visiting Tortilla Flats down the road. Rented a boat for a half day from the marina, went great, there was hardly anyone in the lake which was small but beautiful.
Our favorite lake home away from home! Stunning scenery - one of the most amazing and picturesque lakes I've been to and waking up to the sunrises there makes every day a beautiful day. Never too crowded, even holidays oddly enough, and the people we've met are great, down to earth people. Great place to be to disconnect from everything!
Canyon Lake is a really great place to go and spend a few hours or a day at on the water. We rented kayak's and spent about two hours paddling around up into the canyon area. Mid-week is the best time to go. No crowds on the water. October is still warm and the water is cool, but not unbearable. Good rental rates for kayak's which includes a life jacket and the paddle. Get there first thing at 8 a.m. to make sure you can get a kayak as they are limited. Excellent customer service!
We've been here twice. Once years ago we did the steamboat dolly tour which was well worth it, you really get to see the lake up close. We just recently went back for a day trip and had a good time with our picnic lunch. We brought our dog along and she loved it splashing around in the water, matter of fact there were a few dogs playing in the water just do your research because technically not all areas of the lake are pet friendly. You can boat, fish, camp or just hang out. My wife describes it as Sedona with water. The canyon walls are not as red as Sedona but it is very pretty. I've added some pictures but they don't do canyon lake any justice the lake is much more impressive in person.
Took the boat ride tour around the lake...fair price. Good narration about what one is experiencing. Nicely air conditioned cabin. Reasonable on their snacks, beer and wine. Very enjoyable afternoon. My guess is that everybody would e joy the trip.
I didn't even know place this even existed thanks Reddit. I really like this lake alot. We live next to lake pleasant I would rather go here. The drive was nice abit far from Peoria but it was worth it. We did the Dolly Steam boat tour and that was really great to!!! They had snacks and drinks for sale on the boat. We saw some big horn sheep and a bald eagle. We will be back especially if we have out of state visitors!
Such a relaxing day on the pontoon boat. Stopped at the beach and had a lovely picnic lunch. Beautiful scenery too.
We went on a private pontoon boat ride with friends. It was such a lovely day. We even got some views of the big horned sheep!
We love Canyon lake!! Great place to take the seadoos and fun place for paddle boards and swimming.
