I definitely have some big issues with this school, and I feel that the previous principal ignored some obvious and major problems. However, I think CVHS is moving in a positive direction. My biggest issue with Canyon View is the incredibly low expectations most of the teachers seem to have for the students. For example, student can participate in sports with "a 2.0 GPA and no more than one F per quarter." I've also seen teachers allow students to turn in papers weeks after the due date without serious consequences to their grades. In no way do these standards prepare high school students for college. Some things to know: -No AP Calculus student has ever passed the AP exam. Not one. Frankly, I find this appalling. I can't imagine how the previous principal could accept this with such nonchalance. In eight years of living within Canyon View boundaries, my family and I have seen very little action being taken to address this problem. My hope is that, in the hands of its new principal, CV will be able get its academic standards up to par a little faster. Every year that this issue is procrastinated or ignored, more and more students receive a math education that is nigh unto worthless. -The average composite ACT score at CV is an 18. Besides from my fantastic AP English teacher, I received no help in my preparations for the ACT. The ACT is a test that you can only beat after continual practice. Most teachers simply do not make the effort to prepare the students, and as a result, the scores are awful. I can't begin to fathom how many graduated students could have entered better colleges and more fully accessed their potential if their teachers had better prepared them for the ACT. -Southern Utah University hands out full-ride scholarships to CV students like candy thrown out in a parade. However, the academic standards at Canyon View are so far from the realities of college work that the A's these students earn are close to meaningless. It is commonly acknowledged here at SUU that CV students generally lose their scholarships after a single semester. This includes very bright kids, who, in the hands of a more competent and concerned school, could have easily learned to work hard on a college level. Instead, they suffer in college, financially and emotionally, because they haven't been prepared for college by their teachers-- not even close. So, there you have it. :
2 kids have gone there, and I am not impressed. Staff seem like they could really care less, and I have never seen a school where you can "buy" a passing grade. School seems very money motivated, not quality education oriented.
this school sucks wish i never even came here. thanks a lot mom. i ditched every class cause teachers are so cruel. 50 homework assignments every day in each class. do not come you have been warned
Mr Langford is the worst thing at canyon view by far his attitude sucks and picks on everyone wearing tank tops and wearing hats which Btw make no sence but he still continues to screw every single student that he chooses
There are bullies Also sixth grade should be elementary not jr high giving students work above their grade level and not understanding that late kids sometimes get stuck in traffic or when there is an accident or if they have a dentist appointment I highly do not suggest this school for your children oh I forgot they also discriminate against children on their political opinions and tell them they will start a fight if they do I highly recommend you send your children to south Jordan elementary it's a hole lot better for your kids than a school like canyon view iron county
I have a severe special needs child, and it has already taken 2 weeks to enroll him...The Adviser at our last School sent his transcripts 3 times, and called them half a dozen times and they wouldn't even return his calls..Every time we tuned around we needed something else..How hard is it to make a enrollment check list?..But first I think they need to master the art of the telephone
This school is amazing. I have been bullied at all my school's except for this school.
