About

Capital Ale House is VA’s beer authority, welcoming guests with the best food, most knowledgeable staff and the largest selection of craft & imported brews

Description

Nestled in Historic Downtown Fredericksburg, Capital Ale House is situated in a 200-year-old building set up much like our Downtown Richmond restaurant. The design is respectful of the building’s history, complimenting the old brick, wood beams and pine flooring. The space also includes an 80’ long concrete bar, fireplace, accordion front windows, two private dining areas, a lounge with leather couches and dartboards, and a display beer cellar controlled to a perfect 55 degrees. Our Fredericksburg location features 66 craft and import beers on draught and over 350 bottled beers.

"Capital Ale House is Virginia’s Ale House. We are locally owned and serve only the best craft beer from around the world, across the USA and of course local Virginia brews. We’re proud to serve only pasture-raised, antibiotic and hormone free Virginia beef and strive to procure other local products when possible. Please visit any of our five locations and enjoy a great meal, quenching beer and our Virginia hospitality."

Had a larger sized party and the waitress was amazing! We ended up with a gluten free menu which had many choices. Those not using the menu had a Sunday brunch menu and the regular menu to choose from. Lots of variety. The club sandwhich was huge! There are larger tables, high top tables, booths and there is a huge bar. Beer list is good. Parking: There are options if you are willing to walk on a crowded weekend or evening. Most of the time street parking is easy to grab or a free parking lot. Wheelchair accessibility: We had someone with a wheeled assisted walker and she was able to get in and to the back etc. No problems. The tables are nice and open not crowded. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free menu available and you can customize your dishes with removing items or putting items on the side.
Cool little spot and had loads of local beer. Staff was super friendly and made it an enjoyable experience. I got the smokehouse burger with fries and an Ocean Breeze cocktail. It was pretty good but nothing extraordinary. The Ocean Breeze was nice and sweet.
We had such a very polite young gentleman as our waiter. Our meal was good and glad with our decision to come here with TOO MANY PLACES to decide where to eat tonight.Food: 5/5
We’ve ordered capital ale house a bunch and this is probably the worse it’s ever been. Last time was bad too, but I tried to see past it and give them another chance but this is honestly pitiful. First, I go in and they try to tell me I’m at the wrong location when in reality they put down the wrong name. Second, I ordered an extra beer cheese and they don’t even put that in the bag. I ordered coconut shrimp not fried shrimp. We’ve ordered the fried pickles a bunch and there’s always wayyyyyy more than 7 pickles that they gave me this time. Just sloppy. If I could give zero stars, I would.
This is a great place. But I think it’s under staffed. The restaurant was more than half empty and we still had to wait to be seated. The food was good. A few of the menu items were out at 7pm. Stay away from the pasta dishes. Stick to the appetizers. We tried the wings were good, the Bavarian pretzel was good, the nachos were very light on the toppings. The beef ribs were good too. The big chocolate cake was not “enough for two”. But it was good nonetheless. The restaurant is clean and not too noisy. I wouldn’t say that this place has a kid friendly menu. Would my family come back? I’m not sure. I had mixed reactions from the family.
We had a reservation, it was not crowded, and the food was delicious. However, no waiter came to offer food or drinks for 15+ minutes. We were seated between 2 other tables, which got service, but the waiter did not acknowledge us. A different waiter came to ask if we had been helped. Our drinks were waiting at the bar another 20 minutes until we asked a different waiter for them.
This is a pretty good restaurant and it has a lot going for it! There is a lot of seating, the staff was kind, straightforward, and knowledgeable, and the food was good. The restrooms were also clean, food came out in a timely manner, and the atmosphere was great. Prices were pretty normal for the area and the food was good. The food presentation was also fantastic. The only reason I’m giving this place four stars instead of five is because my meal wasn’t super filling. I got the shrimp tacos and I wasn’t full afterwards… which was very disappointing. I didn’t feel like there was enough shrimp, and there needed to be less cabbage, and it needed to be cut down smaller. The taste was fantastic, it just didn’t make me full unfortunately, so I wouldn’t recommend the dish if you’re super hungry. I would absolutely come back again but I would order something else.
I stopped into Capital Ale house the other day for a quick lunch! It took a little bit to get seated but my server was amazing and attentive. I ordered the fried pickles and the shrimp tacos with fries!! The fried pickles were really good but a little on the greasy side. The shrimp tacos were just okay and the fries were great!! This was my first time coming here and I’ll definitely come back to try it again but overall just an okay experience besides my server who was amazing!
Our waiter was wonderful. Explained any questions we had, and made sure we had everything we neededFood: 5/5
Excellent service. The food quality is good. Drinks and beers are excellent, when they are available. Even though the drinks-menu is very long, found that many of the ones I was looking for were not available. Still, the ones available were good. I did notice that, even though the restaurant and seating area was around 50% full see the pictures, the waiting time was 45+ minutes due to which we just went straight to the bar seating area. The bartender was very helpful in recommending drinks and food from the available ones. Still, 5 start experience ...!!!
