Great Seafood Market. Been buying Blues here for years. Always good prices a d quality. Amazing section of all kinds seafood. Crabs, crayfish, fresh fish, alligator and tons more. They also sell all kinds of spices to baste, saute, season and fry. Great friendly people that will speak shop with ya and give great recommendations. Convenient in and out location in Old Towne Mechanicsville.

Beware! Just went to Capt. Gregs to buy 2 dozen LIVE crabs. We have purchased live crabs in the past with no problems. However, today the box of 2 dozen looked short by probably a half dozen, while trying to do a count, I found an obviously dead crab, out of the next 5 crabs checked, found 2 more DEAD CRABS. When notifying the clerk, she said they were just cold and always like that. I said when the mouth plates are hanging open, it’s dead. She got the owner who came in with a couple of crabs in hand, legs hanging and mouth plates open. He tried to say they were just cold. I informed him that I grew up as a waterman and I know a dead crab mouth plates open and legs drooping. I showed him the first dead one and he said, “yeah that one is dead, but the rest are just cold”. Never offered an apology or showed any concern as we said no thanks to the sale and walked out. Everyone was very rude and could have cared less. Cooking dead shellfish is a very serious health issue, crabs begin decomposing almost immediately after death. Look it up! If this establishment will attempt to sell DEAD CRABS as Live, then it should make everyone wonder how many dead are being steamed and sold.

So I gotta say I’m pretty disappointed. Born and raised here locally and relocated for a few years out of town so I was looking forward to being home and getting some fresh seafood. Bought 2 pounds of the large shrimp, some scallops , and couple other items. Everything was great except when I opened the shrimp they had a really bad odor. Not a big deal, I took the back up there and wasn’t really upset but everyone knows seafood should not have a bad odor at all. The young lady wasn’t really rude but just more or less lied as she stuck her nose in the bag and said “ they smell fine to me” haha. Well either she doesn’t know what seafood should smell like or just refused to admit it but either way, not a good look and I’m not sure I’ll be back to purchase from this place. Accidents happen , but own it! Don’t treat your customers that know what they’re talking about like they are idiots.

Purchased dungeons claws. DEFINITELY out of date. Couldn't even eat a bite. We've cooked these numerous times and NEVER had an experience like this!

I was pleased with my purchase from Captain Greg’s. I went in to get crawfish for my crawfish boil for my birthday. Mind you I had called around to numerous seafood stores and they had them available at the best price. It was convenient as the crawfish were frozen and prebagged by the pound. I was able to get in and out quickly with exactly what I needed. I also bought some crab dip and a roll of Ritz crackers. I thought the individual packs of crackers were ingenious and convenient- it saved me a trip to the store. The crawfish were delicious! I’ll definitely go back in the future. The young lady at the counter was very pleasant.

Delicious and reasonably priced local oysters and shrimp!

Drive into town just for this place.18 miles. Normally owner is there, greets us and we have a great talk. The seafood is always amazing! Today there was a different person waiting on us , Sunday Febuary21st and even my husband who never notices anything, noticed that the person seemed like she would rather be anywhere but there. Not very friendly, never smiled and seemed bothered to wait on us. Wow you can now look at your phone on your job if bored. Not like us who had to actually work.

Been buying steamed crabs from Capt Greg's for many years, always had fresh top notch crabs and he always rhrows in extra seasoning in a bag. Wonderful spiced shrimp.

It's true. This is the best seafood our area has to offer by far! When I went in the other day he explained how everything Is wild caught and sustainable from our local sea shores of the Outer Banks to fresh Alaskan salmon. The prices are reasonable and the quality is outstanding! I've been in Mechanicsville for a year and a half. This is my go to for seafood I can't believe it took me so long to find it!

My family has made oyster dressing for Thanksgiving for 50 years. My grandmother started the tradition in Indiana, my mom continued it in Ohio, and now I do it here. While the oysters here may be a bit more expensive than Kroger, my family immediately commented on how these were the best quality oysters they'd had in years. It's worth it, they are just that good.
