As a mother myself, keeping my child safe and warm during the winter months I have found to be a bit more challenging. With bulky winter coats required to keep her warm, also are a hazard when she is in her convertible car seat. I have found the solution! A cape, or poncho, to go over her body and the back of the seat while she is strapped in securely underneath. It not only keeps her warm enough in and out of her seat, but I no longer have to take her and out of her coat when we go places. I wish I had made her one sooner! My goal is to share the hazards of a child wearing a winter coat in their seat and provide an safe and adorable alternative.
With a bulky winter jacket, the straps can be tightened with all of your might. If you were to remove the jacket and strap the child back in, you can still "pinch" the slack on the straps. That means in the even of a crash, the filling can be compressed enough that the car seat can no longer adequately protect the child. There have been cases of children being ejected from their seats in accidents as a result.
