Hospice maintains the philosophy of providing comprehensive, quality care to patients without regard to age, disease, handicap, race, sex, religion, social or economic status, or ability to pay, within the limits of the hospice program. Hospice patients are those patients referred by their attending physician for terminal, end of life care during the last six months of life as predicted if the disease runs its normal course.
Hospice care is an organized approach to care, wherein competent, compassionate care is offered. Hospice's mission is to focus its care on the whole family as the unit of care. Emphasis is placed on pain and symptom control and improving quality of life for the person who is dying. Hospice assists the patient, family, or caregivers in coping by providing psychological and spiritual support as well as the physical care management.
