Prices are way too high. I understand inflation but unless you go on a Tuesday, this place is not a highly recommended place for "date night". Over $50 for tickets, popcorn, and sodas. I think I'll save up and create my own theater room and wait for the movies to come out on dvd. I'll enjoy it a lot more. The movie theater experience just isn't what it use to be.
This theater was designed by someone who either has never been to a cinema, or who is so sadistic they wanted to make the experience as annoying as possible. There is no ticket counter. Instead, there's a massive velvet-rope maze to wend through to make way to the concessions. This rope setup ends up being necessary, because combining tickets with concessions, you cause a massive backup of people dawdling over what exactly they want to see, eat and drink and whether the $20 popcorn and soda combo would make more sense than the $25 combo and whether to get the twizzlers or the cookie dough and oh don't those pretzels look good. The soda and popcorn prep area is a zoo - I don't know what they were thinking wedging everything between two sets of soda fountains on the other side of the the concessions area between the entrance to the actual theaters, but after you buy your tickets and whatever food and drink, you cross over to the soda machines and butter/flavor/popcorn filling area. The seats in the theaters are nice enough - far better than the theaters the Carmike replaced - but given how awful every other part of this place is, I can't help but feel the Carmike is still somehow a step back.
The picture and sound was great and I always love the atmosphere of being in a movie theater but I refuse to buy concession ever at a theater...especially this one. The price of snacks is redicilous!! There going under because of the greedy profit margins...you can buy a whole case of water for less then a water here...a 12 pack of soda for about the same price of a small soda and popcorn...come on! You can make a whole bucket of popcorn at home for under a dollar. So why would people come coming to theaters and buy concessions? I would rather stay home and rent a movie and my own concessions for everyone in the house for under $5-$10. Doesn't tale a genius to do the math...greed is running theaters into the ground. Just like drive ins, they will become a thing of the past. Sad...
If you ask them they will tell you that the previews before a movie actually runs last for 20 minutes, so that if your movie time is 3:15pm the actual movie will start at 3:35pm. I arrived for a 3:15pm movie at 3:13pm and waited in a line that reached out to the parking lot for 27 minutes, before even reaching the ticket desk . . . they had ONE girl selling tickets and multiple movies starting during the 3 o'clock hour. The concession line was also backed up into the middle of the lobby and didn't appear to be moving, there may have been two people behind that counter. The management at this location is obviously incompetent, so if you really want to see a movie like it is the last day it will be showing or it's the only time you'll be able to go, do not count on them having enough employees to sell you a ticket, go very early buy your tickets then go kill time shopping somewhere until your movie time. I missed my last chance to see a movie, because I waited in line from before the official show time until after the movie had started.
It's not the most luxurious, but sound was great, picture was crystal clear, saw mad max fury road and it was a classic feel, flat theater. Seats were a bit uncomfortable but if you're not a douche bag this theater is nothing to complain about. There was no obscene smells. Regular good ole movie experience.
Here's my problem: THE PRICES. Okay so tickets aren't cheap adults 12 and older are $10.50, kids $8.50 but that's almost universal these days. It's the popcorn and pop. Example? Their special, 2 medium pops and large popcorn: $20.50!!! What a rip off! So for me to take my 11 and 13 year old to go see a movie it cost me $50. That's without buying myself anything! Not worth it at all. These guys are gonna price themselves right out of business.
Everything is over price, a larger pop was 6.45$ The theater was run down and dirty. The movie was list to start at 9:30pm but we had wait for 30 mins of before the movie stated at 10:00pm. My family will never come back again.
Outdated, Not well maintained. The Carmike Theaters in Traverse City MI are among the worst theaters I've been too. Watching a movie here makes you sad because the sound isnt great. The picture quality is awful. The Image is dull. They don't run the projector at full brightness. So Avoid seeing a 3D movie here. The Picture is murky, and blah. Whites are Gray and everything is so dark. Theres no punch or contrast to the picture. Also on a few screens theres some decent size Tears or rips as well.
I've never had such a hard time buying a movie ticket! Ridiculous! Popcorn everywhere on the floor. I didn't get the receipt I was supposed to show the popcorn girl...ugh!!!! The dual ticket line/concession line is the worst idea ever. I will not bring my family back.
Movie and sound was great. BUT the seating absolutely sucked. My butt and legs are numb after a 2 hour movie. I hope the new theatre is MUCH more comfortable!!!
