About

Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area

Description

Vehicle Tracks and Trails: Carnegie offers more than 1,000 acres for riding. About half of the SVRA has open riding with no designated trails. The other half is designated as trails only. Some trails are single track and are too narrow for all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). The park has a motocross track open to dirt bikes only, an ATV and dirt bike track, a beginner track designated for vehicles with small engines up to 70cc displacement, and a 110cc track for young riders. Trails in the hills are not designed for large 4-wheel drive vehicles including golf carts and RUVs. There is a 4x4 play area located on the east end of the park for these vehicles.

Terrain: The landscape at Carnegie is characterized by dry rocky washes, rolling hills, and steep, rugged canyons offering a variety of terrain for riding, including some extremely challenging hills. Park elevations range from 650 to 1,750 feet above sea level, providing some spectacular views. The climate is typical of the central valley. Dry summers bring strong onshore breezes through Corral Hollow Canyon and winter rainfall fills the small ponds located in the park.

Nature Viewing: While mostly oak grasslands, the park is home to an impressive display of spring wildflowers and some special California native plants. Slow down to see a wide range of animal life, including road runners, golden eagles, black-tailed deer, and bobcats.
