Carol Widman's Candy Co. is a candy shop located in Fargo, ND. We are fourth generation candy makers and home of the famous "Chippers".

Description

Widman's candy dates back to 1885. William Widman, a baker and candy maker, opened the first store in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1911, George I and Clara Widman opened Widman's Candy in Crookston, MN. In 1949, George II and Betty Widman opened Widman's Candy in Grand Forks, ND. Carol Widman's Candy Co. has been in business since 1990 by Carol Widman Kennedy and David Kennedy.
The existing stores are located in Fargo, ND (owned and operated by Carol Widman Kennedy and David Kennedy), Grand Forks, ND (owned by George II and Betty Widman and operated by Daniel Widman), and Crookston, ND (owned and operated by George III and Lois Widman).

Carol Widman's Candy Co. is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM and Saturday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. We are closed on Sundays.

Products

We offer a wide variety of hand-dipped and hand-made chocolates, just like the old craft, ranging from chocolate-covered caramel to chocolate-covered pickles. We are famous for our “Chippers”, which are chocolate-covered potato chips. We also have assorted candy gift boxes and wicker trays.

$24.00 per pound for chocolate. I get that prices have gone up and its tough to keep small businesses going, but good quality steak is only $20 / lb. I used to really enjoy picking up a mix of stuff for a treat from here and their other locations. Even if I had money to burn, at some point a person feels foolish when prices get this high for such a small amount. $1.50 per oz.

Whoever said the chippers are too chocolately has something wrong with them. The chippers from Sweet Dreams are like 8/10 compared to these 11/10.

I had just visited Sweet Dreams Confections and wanted to try the chocolate from here too. I entered and there were two young girls behind the counter. One seemed to be training the other. Nobody greeted me or said anything to me while I browsed. I looked around the store and I didn't find it very appealing. A minute later a girl came from out of the back of the store and asked if she could help. She was somewhat helpful, but not very friendly. I only bought a couple different flavors. The chocolates seem somewhat small. They didn't taste grand either. This was my first visit here and I would not want to go back because of the overall experience.
Very clean store, nice displays that are easy to shop. Chocolates and candies are packaged in cute bags and containers I bought a bag of Dark Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans and the bag had little coffee cups on it. They do samples so you can ask to try a piece of chocolate before splurging on it. There is also chocolates for special occasions new baby, for teachers, new home, etc. The Chocolate Chippers they make are the hands-down best.

I order the Chippers chocolate covered potato chips to give to various people in my life. They make an amazing "thank you" to my doctors, chiropractor, airline crew when flying, friends I'm visiting, etc.
A family tradition of excellence in making chocolate. If you are in the Fargo ND area, you must stop here for chocolate or a sample of their many candies. They are world wide known for their milk chocolate "chippers"...potato chips dipped into their signature family recipe milk chocolate. So yummy. They have gift boxes also. I Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys good candy and chocolate to stop in to Carol Widman's Candy Store.
