Health Information Technology
CHIP is an interdisciplinary program. Students may collaborate across the UNC School of Information and Library Science, the School of Medicine, the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and the School of Nursing.
Our program has a foundation in theory, but our focus is putting knowledge into practice. All programs require a separate, or course-integrated practicum designed to bridge the areas of research, policy, and industry.
Participants in our program are applying their knowledge in hospitals and clinics as well as public health agencies, medical libraries, and pharmaceutical companies. The program is located in one of the country’s top medical regions--home to UNC Health Care, Duke Medicine, and industry leaders in the medical and information technology fields.
The goal of the program is to provide an Information Technology foundation to professionals interested in designing and implementing systems (both IT and organizational) to improve health care and services. The program is interdisciplinary in nature and is a product of collaboration among several health and IT oriented academic units at UNC-Chapel Hill including:
•School of Information and Library Sciences
•School of Medicine
•School of Nursing
•School of Public Health
