I have enjoyed the people I have met there and think the group is fulfilling a critical need for training young people on how to safely use and enjoy fire arms. I am thankful that the many volunteers that have given of Their time to provide a safe area to pratice our shooting skills. I think it is very poor that several of the former members are using this platform to bash members who did not agree on the direction the club should take are now bashing the older members who have devoted time and materials to improve the facilities.
There is no doubt that this club struggles with evolving from a small group of dedicated founding members into a club of 250 members with varying interests. We are having some leadership & vision issues. But we offer a challenging & enjoyable wealth of options with pistol, archery, shotgun, rim fire, 300 yd bench rest, & three 3 Gun ranges with multiple steel targets. The members are friendly & inviting. Safety is the priority. 4-H, Boy Scout, & high school training, law enforcement, as well as concealed carry & Range Officer courses are popular & priorities. I've been a member 3 years & treasure my access to be able to improve my skills. I have appreciated the advice from experienced shooters. All are welcome, & we can learn together & enjoy the fellowship of kindred souls.
After reading Mr. Chris Steven's recent review, its important to share the perspective of the club and its member. While it is possible that Mr. Steven's has been on site at our Private Shooting Club - a review of our required sign-in logs and discussions with our members failed to confirm his presence at the club which would require him to be escorted by an active member. To address his review - at best it is inaccurate. At worst, it is a malicious work of fiction intended to disparage the club and its membership. One glance at his 'angry old man' comment and reference that the club cancelled its membership meetings tells the tale - both are completely false and inaccurate. The club's board meets regularly with full membership meetings held quarterly to best meet the needs of the club's membership. The club has been in place without incident for more than a decade and has nearly doubled in size within the most recent year. If the quality of the range and the club's leadership are as Mr. Steven's describes - why is the club growing rapidly? Why do we have a 90%+ rate of new members joining after touring the property and meeting a few members? While the range is not perfect severe rains do indeed cause mud and flooding at times, it is a welcome asset that we members are proud to support. Novice shooters, expert shooters, local organization, the 4H, churches and others all benefit from the effort of the club and its volunteers to provide a safe, secure area for shooting sports. We welcome those interested in CWSC to arrange a time to dust off their guns and come out for a tour. Any of our NRA certified range officers or club members would be glad to lend a hand.
Great range 3 gun competitions are well attended. There may have been problems in the past but the new board is attempting to correct them. You will probably find out that the negative reviews are from members past and present or their friends who did not get their way in controlling the club. There are 10 members of the board who are putting their best efforts forward and involving non board members on the committees. We now have a long range planning committee working on plans for your future enjoyment. If you have been a guest how about trying us again, maybe with a positive thinking member as your host
Carolina West Shooting club is on an upward climb in their offerings not only to members but especially persons wishing to improve their skills with classes offered by world class instructors. The youth programs are outstanding and will be expanded as needed. Offerings and improvements are under way to make shooting here more fun safe. They are always accommodating to civic organizations for working with their needs. Range Safety Officers are always there as needed. Memberships are available as they have expanded the membership cap. The negative reviews especially those about good ole boys are from some good ole boys or their "good ole boy " friends who did not get their way in controlling club finances to benefit their pet projects. As far as club turnover, most clubs this size experience a 10%-15% turnover CWSC is no different. Want a true experience visit with a member with no vendetta. By the way my name is posted with this review. With your next derogatory comment let us know who you are. Bill Poteat
Safe and friendly place to enjoy shooting. The rifle range is stacked up with 200yd targets behind the 100yd and the 300yd targets behind the 200yd targets. This has never been a problem when I have shot there. Yes, sometimes you have to wait a little longer for everyone to post targets but it gives you a chance to chat and kibitz with the other shooters. I have had nothing but good experiences shooting at the CWSC. There was a complaint about the coyote on the 300 yd line being too big. Get a life!!! You want it to be a little harder to hit? Just aim for the snout or the ear....
Howdy folks, I attended a recent CWSC Work Day. After having a very pleasant conversation with another volunteer Daniel, it dawned on me that a lot of fellowship happens when members come together with a common purpose. Also, I have a lot of just plain fun laughing at the humor and kidding around with the other volunteers while we’re working of course. Finally, a lot of important club improvements get done on Work Days. I know that there are other CWSC group activities that create fellowship and positive outcomes. I just wanted to emphasize that Work Days are a key element to a thriving club. I look forward to meeting more volunteers.
If you are looking for a gun club. This is the one for you. Friendly members, great instruction and guidance. A variety of ranges good for all ages and skill levels.
old and run down. very odd design to have main meeting area in middle of property. ranges to close together. many hazards to other shooters and neighbors. think twice before joining because of hazards. seen better ranges. not seen many much worse.
Safe, relaxing, and polite. Everyone I've encountered at cws have been so helpful and polite. No egos and no weekend Blackwater's wannabes
