Carroll County Mental Health Advocates (CMHA) consists of local citizens and agencies with a desire to address the needs of Carroll County citizens who face mental illness. As citizens we are all stakeholders in Carroll County.
“Without treatment the consequences of mental illness for the individual and society are staggering”. The cost to individuals may show up as unnecessary disability, unemployment, homelessness, substance abuse, inappropriate incarceration, and/or suicide. The economic cost of untreated mental illness to society is “more than 100 billion dollars each year in the US” (NAMI). However, according to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (MAMI), access to treatment and recovery supports can accelerate recovery and minimize further harm related to the course of mental illness.
