Delicious icecream sandwiches and cakes! Got one for my nephew this past weekend and it was a HUGE HIT! Pictured is the cookies and cream carvelog!
Ice cream is decent. Not a ton of options. They do serve soft serve. I asked for chopped peanuts on half / shots on other. They couldn't do it for some reason. I asked for a cup of the chopped peanuts and dipped it myself. Not hard. Very few places have astute staff, just kids with limited experience it seems. Ice cream cakes are good. They do have Ice cream cake Ice cream to scoop for cones, etc. I gotta check that out.
In my book, Carvel is the best soft serve ice cream. The Newington shop is very friendly, locally owned and also offers hard ice cream. No inside tables, but lots of outside seating and small town charm. Especially enjoyable on a summer evening sitting under the lighted trees.

No, just no, drive yourself to AC Peterson for some amazing ice cream and better customer service. I’ve been here twice and had a weird experience each time. You don’t get acknowledged, they rather help a friend visiting, they’ll have the best time with the person visiting. Finally help you and look miserable. You ask questions and and are quickly dismissed. I asked for a topping and was bluntly told they don’t have it. I wanted to ask what other options they may have but she quickly put my ice cream on the counter. The whipped cream comes from a can. AC Peterson makes it along with their hot fudge. Spend your money somewhere else. I don’t leave reviews like this so it says a lot.
Wanted to love it but our freshly scooped out ice cream was stale and freezer burn. It was during winter that we visited but ice cream should always be sold fresh. The place looked dingy and dirty. The older man and women were not friendly. I’m not sure if they were the owners but they looked miserable, not what you would expect from an ice cream establishment.
I am grateful we still have a Carvel here in Newington. In addition it is one of the nicest, most modern ones still left. Carvel is always my favorite soft serve ice cream and it never disappoints.
Always love their friendly service, the ice cream is delicious. Prices gone up tho but that's everywhere.
I was born in Newington in 1946 and lived on Ellsworth Street, one block.away The ice cream parlor i went to was at this exact same location. Now Carvel. Ice cream cones where 5 cents. I walked up there when i was five years old. It is a wonderful memory l 5 stars always Roger Morell
They made my milkshake with milk and strawberry ice cream, then when my friend ordered they made his milkshake the usual way with real strawberries. Then they charged us different prices even though we ordered the exact same thing. Worst Carvel I've ever been to. Disappointing.
