Cascade Brewing Barrel House

About

Known as the House of Sour, this Eastside pub of Cascade Brewing offers more than 24 rotating taps, with a predominantly sour lineup at any given time.

Description

Cascade Brewing has been a pioneer in the sour beer renaissance since 2006 and is the proud innovator of the Northwest Sour Ale. Our distinctive sour beer blends feature fruit forward, barrel-aged ales that offer a complex array of flavors derived from Northwest-grown ingredients, with each release capturing the unique subtleties of that year’s growing season. Our beers are brewed at our original brewery in Southwest Portland, then blended and aged at our nearby Blending House, which holds more than 1,500 oaks barrels and nine foudre tanks. We then serve them at our two pubs, the Cascade Brewing Barrel House and the Raccoon Lodge, as well as on draft and in bottles throughout the world.

Mission

Sour to the People!

"Our beers are brewed and blended in Southwest Portland, Oregon. Our Blending House currently houses 1,300 French oak, Kentucky Bourbon and Northwest wine barrels – plus nine foudres – filled with wheats, blonds, quads, reds, browns and porters that are aged and blended into magical elixirs. These beers have aggressive tart notes that are balanced by residual sugars, fruits, spices and the oak we use. We serve them all up for you here at the “House of Sour,” which features more than 28 rotating taps with a predominantly sour lineup at any given time. We also offer a number of bottled products to go. Cheers to the Sours!"

Famous for their sour ale in S.Korea. But they have other things too. I tried 7~8 2 ozs with mac n cheese and chicken sandwich. I planned to move to another brewery but changed my mind. Try their sour ales. I recommend them.Food: 5/5
Tasty place to check out. Friendly Staff. Delicious Food. The beer was tasty, but use Untappd to check reviews as some bottles have fallen off in flavor. Kid & Dog Friendly. Overall a great place to grab a drink.
If you like sours, this is the place for you! They have a good variety, so getting a flight is the perfect option. The Westcoast IPA was delicious. The Apricot and Peach sours were tasty If you're feeling snacky, get yourself a pretzel
I didn't have time to eat, but I tell you what, that flight was the most absolute best I've EVER had in my life!!! My favorites in this order were: #1 Briney The Elder #2 Péche Fumé #3 Bourbonic 2020 #4 Apricot 2019 Definitely recommend and WILL be back!! Great service, too!!!
Stopped in to sample a few of their legendary sours, decided to go with the "Dealers choice" flight in 4oz pours. My beertender didn't dissapoint and served up 4 fantastic and very different sours. They also seemed like generous pours. Fun spot with outdoor tented patio as well as indoor seating. I skipped the food as I had just eaten dinner, but what I saw come out looked delicious.
Stopped by again for PDX Craft Beer week and got to vote on the best sour between three chosen brews by the team. Really great pours at 2oz each. 4oz pours are also an option but since they are all barrel aged, I went with 2oz. Flight was great so I asked for another flight at random and let my server decide. All also great. Ordered the asparagus and snow pea bruschetta and my goodness, it was stunning. Very earthy. I love when snow peas are sliced in half. I ate all the veggies before devouring the bread. Parking is off street and you can use Parking Kitty to pay when designated. Will come again. Vegetarian options: Asparagus and snow pea bruschetta
Cascade is a legend! Best barrel-aged sours in town to my opinion, and the most generous 4oz pours!
A must do for sour beer lovers. However, this is not like I remembered it from years ago when I fell in love with the place. I have been waiting for over 4 years to make my return to Portland and visit again only to be underwhelmed by the variety of options. My first visit had so many options that we sat for hours enjoying flights. This was not the same experience as the options are much more limited. But, I enjoyed my flight and left. Just a shame. Maybe it’s because it’s summer now and my last visit was winter so they had a variety of caramel apples and other winter flavors. Oh well.
I went here for the first, and probably last time, on the 14th of July. The menu selection was absolutely horrible. They had three appetizers and one fried chicken sandwich to choose from. The "service" was borderline nonexistent. After we finally placed our order, we waited as if they were smoking a brisket in the kitchen. Can't streamline four menu items? We see the food get put in the window and the cook mashes the bell... Three different servers walk by our food and past our table without so much as looking up. Cook mashes the bell again.... nothing. Again... nothing. The cook finally gets fed up and comes out of the kitchen and personally brings our feast to our table. Food was mediocre at best. Insult to injury? Upon cashing out, they offer a minimum of a 20% tip selection... Think much of yourselves, do you? I begrudgingly tipped for the luxury of being largely ignored. Hopefully, the cook gets a cut of that. I hear that the beer is good? I don't know, I didn't have any. If you're going in for a drink, bellied up to the bar, it's probably a completely different experience. As for dining, sorry to say, I wouldn't waste your time.
Wonderful beer spot if you want something different or like sour beers. I had a Blueberry sour. With some bacon donuts and deviled eggs with smoked Salmon.Food: 5/5
