Castle Cafe

About

An unfussy local and historic pub plating World Famous Fried Chicken and other southern inspired fare.

Description

The Castle Hotel and Bar began as the gathering place for quarry workers, ranchers, and travelers during the 1890's.

Around 1910, The Castle Hotel and Cafe became the stopover for travelers between Denver and Colorado Springs. A decade later, a dance hall was built in the bar and it served as a community center during the roaring 20's, depressing 30's and early 40's. Throughout the years, The Castle Cafe and Lounge remained the geographical and social heart of the Castle Rock area.

Open for selected lunch hours, dinner service and all-day Sunday, Castle Cafe is an unfussy southern pub serving World Famous Fried Chicken and other delicious American fare.

Kept hearing great things about Castle Cafe's famous fried chicken, decided to try it out. Definitely not disappointed at all!! Absolutely LOVE the atmosphere, vintage historic western building that used to be a bar and hotel back in the day. The spicy devils jalapeno bacon deviled eggs we're good but nothing special in my opinion. Not much jalapeno flavor. The chicken takes 30 minutes to make from order, so be prepared for that wait, but it's absolutely worth it. The coleslaw is one of my favorite coleslaws that I've ever had and the rolls were delicious, you can tell they're made from scratch. I can't wait to go back and bring my family!
Quite a tasty meal! I didn't want to wait the 30 minutes for the pan-fried chicken, so I got the chicken fried chicken. Gravy was on point, and the chicken was delicious. The veggies needed some salt and pepper, but the service and rest of the meal made up for it. The rolls were warm and fresh. But unfortunately the dessert we not as delicious as dinner. Desserts have room for improvement. We had the apple pie and bread pudding, neither were sweet. Overall, good place to eat for dinner.
This has been our local favorite for 25 years! The building is over 100 years old and back in the late 1800's, it was the main stop for travelers between Denver and Colorado Springs. It even used to have a dance hall over the restaurant. Great history to this building! Try the fried chicken, its amazing! Another favorite is the green chili soup.Tonight, we had the Chicken fried steak and the Meatloaf. Basically, everything is good and the service is excellent! and No Sniveling!
My family and I ate here tonight for the first time and were extremely impressed…and upset we hadn’t tried it sooner! The food was amazing, service was spectacular, and ambiance was great! We ate outside in the heart of downtown, which felt like a scene from a movie. We will be back for sure!
The Castle Cafe has been one of my favorites for home cooking for roughly 15 years. I will make a 45 minute trip just to eat here when I don't feel like frying chicken myself. Tonight there was a short wait when we arrived only twenty five minutes or so at prime dinner time. We were greeted with a smile, and the ladies asked for my number and sent me a text letting me know we would be buzzed when next. We waited in the area out front patiently until buzzed. Then we followed the lady to the booth that fit five of us comfortably. I keep in mind they were busy. We had one gentleman approach the table saying he would be back in a moment, and then less then a minute later another server came over and basically said she would be damned if that's so and that no one was going to take her table. So she proceeded with our drink orders and I went ahead and placed an order for appetizers. The spinach and artichoke dip was absolutely delicious, and the smoked trout was amazing. When the drinks arrived we placed our dinner orders. Knowing it would take 30 minutes for the cast iron fried chicken. Our soups and salad came before the appetizers, which was fine because we were hungry. The apps arrived shortly after and then the main course. When the appetizers arrived we then placed a to go order that consisted of three items. We all tried different dishes from the menu. Everyone left with full stomachs and no food complaints. When we were done boxing up what we couldn't eat we decided to share two slices of strawberry rhubarb pie. The only thing I think could have been better would be if the server was a little more attentive with the discarded plates. Making room for when the entrees came. All in all dinner was amazing and my family made another great memory.
Atmosphere is casual. Almost everything I've ever tried here has been very good. The Apple pie need help though - the filling was very over done, almost like homemade applesauce. Stop in. Relax. You'll be glad you did!
I love the Castle Cafe! I order here maybe once every two weeks while I am at work, and I order the Chicken Grill. It is so filling and tastes fresh every time. I consider myself to be a ranch enthusiast, and their ranch is absolutely delicious!
This is the best meal I had on my visit to Castle Rock. The pan fried chicken is perfect. Took me back to living in Georgia. The general chicken order has 4 pieces of chicken, potatoes, and mixed vegetables. You can soup or salad option if you wish. The rolls were warm and fresh. Butter and honey included. That is some Southern eatin' right there. The server was cool and took care of everything we needed. The atmosphere was busy but not loud. Motown music was playing throughout the resturant. This place easily could have been a great place to eat in the South but it is here in Castle Rock. The best chicken meal I have had in a decade. Yeah, gonna be added to my "must visit" every time I visit Colorado.
This place has a lot of character. The green chili was delicious and the friend chicken burger was perfectly cooked. You can’t ask for better service.
We stopped in for lunch and had some amazing food. This place is so cute and service was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Prices were very reasonable. The next time I'm back in Colorado, this will definitely be on my list for lunch.Food: 5/5
