Seido Karate is a traditional Japanese style of karate, founded in 1976 by Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura. Today, Seido Karate is an international organization with thriving branches in fourteen countries and more than 20,000 students worldwide. Seido’s New York City Honbu (headquarters) is one of the largest martial arts schools in the world. More importantly, Seido represents the personal ideal of Kaicho Nakamura that karate can help individuals to better understand themselves and others.
Seido is unique in its family atmosphere. Kaicho has always maintained that the dojo (school) should be a haven for those who come to train, a second home where they can surround themselves with support and where they can explore the meaning of their karate.
Seido Karate is integrated training of the body, mind, and spirit. Progressive training methods allow anyone to participate—we strongly believe that the benefits of karate training should be available to anyone, including those with disabilities.
Cayuga Lake Seido Karate offers several programs of instruction in Tompkins County:
*at our main dojo, located at 17 Ridge Road in Lansing, where instruction is provided for adults and children ages 4 and older
*through the Dryden Recreation Department where classes are held for juniors and youth ages 6-13
*at Trumansburg High School, where instruction is provided to students in grades 9-12 during the school day as part of the physical education program. A weekly after-school program is also offered in Trumansburg for students in grades K-12
