Cedar Canyon Nature Park is the public's access to the Southwest Wildlife Foundation, which is dedicated to wildlife rescue, wildlife and environmental education. The park is on 22.6 acres of beautiful canyon land to the east of Cedar City, UT on SR14.
In 2000, Pacificorp donated 22.6 acres of beautiful canyon property on the east side of Cedar City, Utah to the Southwest Wildlife Foundation (SWF) for the development of a permanent wildlife rescue facility and nature park. Nestled between two beautiful red Navajo sandstone mountains, this property is situated on the transition point between the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin environments.
The site is the historical site of Southern Utah Power Co. which was built in 1952. Coal Creek flows through the center of the property year-round and includes a waterfall built by the CCC in the 1930’s.
In 2003 a paved walking and bicycle trail was completed through the SWF nature park property, connecting the Nature Park site to the city’s existing pedestrian trail system.
Each summer the SWF property is host to a free Campfire Concert in the Canyon series showcasing the Nature Park property and local musical talent in Southern Utah. For information on these programs please visit http://www.gowildlife.org/events.htm
In November 2012, a pedestrian bridge was completed which crosses Coal Creek and connects the north and south sides of the property which enables easier access to the public.
