Beautiful place that is very respectful and somber. There are lovely monuments and tombstones and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The Sexton drove by and informed us this was the largest and oldest cemetery in the U.S. that is still in use.
An excellent staff and they answer the telephone. I am so glad my maternal grandfather selected this site for his family. It is up on a hill and in front of mountains. They do an EXCELLENT job taking care of the lawn and flowers. Thank you
Worth the trip to see the grave of the Confederate Camel. Easy to find, enter on Lindsay street, it's in the second plot of confederate soldiers on the left side, second row from the road. Lots of interesting history here!
Many thanks to cemetery employee Lee! He took time from his regular tasks to help us find graves of my great-grandparents and other relatives in three locations within this huge, historic cemetery. Lee has been one of the caretakers for 32 years. His “caring” extends to visitors as well as the beautiful grounds.
Beautiful! Very humbling to see and well taken care of.
When in town you need to check this place out a lot of history that people are overlooking .
Very nicely kept for war heroes.
Absolutely beautiful cemetery. Thanks to Venable Moore, Cemetery Sexton, for the private tour. Also for his recommendation of the book Just Passing Through which tells the story of the cemetery and those who rest there.
Beautiful place. Very sad and somber. So many of the young men were in their early twenties. Some even 17 and 18. May their souls rest in peace.
Huge place. Lots of history.
