We are a family of fine wood artists from the Heartland of the USA, creators of two and three dimensional relief sculptures from recycled, rejected or specialty wood sources. Embracing the natural beauty of our surroundings and its “flaws,” we use no paint or stain in the wood carvings. Beauty is known to be subjective. Something considered beautiful by one person, may not even be noticed by another. Some say beauty is only skin deep. We believe beauty found, is not always easily found, or even seen. Nonetheless, it is always, worth the search. The search begins, then, sometimes in the lumber yard. Not, perhaps, within the rows of perfectly cut trees, but in the dusty, forgotten corner where the pieces just didn’t make the cut. Maybe it begins with the old fence hidden by neglect, no longer believed useful. It has aged countless seasons, through hottest summers, strongest storms and coldest winters, before developing the desired character. In the shop, the work is messy, difficult, dangerous, and requires a great deal of patience, but we wouldn't want it any other way. We research every subject to present a finished connection to each project. Each piece is then carefully planned and executed, creating, in a way, our own custom wooden puzzle. Great care is taken to avoid it, but if a piece, or any part of the process is incorrect, it is modified, or replaced, until it is right. We love the craft, the ambiance of fresh cut wood, and the aroma of a good cup of coffee in the shop.
