OUR MISSION:
To promote the history, the monuments and the natural beauty of the cemeteries in a park-like setting, for the benefit of the descendants of those who rest in these cemeteries and for the residents of and the visitors to the Village of Patchogue and to secure the restoration and preservation of the burial grounds, and to provide new landscape as well as architectural features that meet the needs of generations to come.
The Cemetery Restoration Committee of Patchogue (CRC) is part of the not-for-profit Greater Patchogue Foundation. This group of volunteers formally organized in 2006 to restore and maintain the five historic and sacred cemeteries collectively referred to as “Lakeview Cemetery,” on West Main Street between the YMCA and Waverly Avenue.
In the past, CRC has cleaned the property of overgrowth and litter, planted flowers and shrubs, installed monument lighting, repaired and replaced headstones, and raised funds through grants and fundraisers.
In addition, the group has generated interest from historical associations because the cemetery includes graves of a feminist from the turn of the last century and dozens of war veterans from the American Revolution to the Civil War to Vietnam. Such energy has enabled the group to attract larger groups of volunteers for periodic clean-up days and other events. Currently, CRC has undertaken the process of a title search with the goal of incorporating as a not-for-profit cemetery.
