Norton Center Cemetery is a very well-maintained cemetery. My interest is in the hand-carved grave stones carved before 1800. This cemetery has many more carved crude field stones than I usually see. Some of them were carved late in the 18th century when most other burial grounds were featuring standardized grave stones that featured either the soul effigy with a skull with wings early in the 18th century or of a head with wings later in the 18th century. In the Norton Center Cemetery there were few grave stones with soul effigies as is typical at other cemeteries, but they mostly featured floral geometric designs in the tympanum. The number of field stones was greater than expected. If you like old burial grounds this one has some interesting stones. There were also some interesting white marble peaked grave stones which I have rarely seen in other cemeteries.
