Absolutely stunning library. So so pretty. Friendly staff. I appreciate their text message service any time I get confused. Their selection of film & book is amazing. I recently rented a foreign film that has been impossible to find, plus a book I've been searching for a many years. Found it there without any issues. I love the selection of Native American books they have. So many books in different languages. I'm fascinated with the little kits they have for music, kids, book clubs, etc. Their business center upstairs is amazing!!! Comfortable seating. They always have great events. I just discovered they have a bookstore in the front called "The Bookseller" & it's AMAZING!!! They also have a wonderful & hilarious social media presence. I strongly suggest following them, because it legit is the greatest account of all time. You can thank me later. ; If you are visiting Milwaukee, I highly recommend stopping in just to admire the architecture & art. They have an area with free magazines & brochures, perfect for anyone looking to discover Milwaukee more. SUPPORT THIS GEM! Your local library needs foot traffic to stay funded, so come on in. It's a wonderful building! EDIT: forgot to mention parking! You do have to pay for street parking, but exactly 1 block south on Michigan Ave there is are a few spots with free 1 hour parking. Also, Monday & Tuesday the library is open until 8pm & there is free parking after 6pm so that gives you 2 hours! AND Saturday parking is free all day!
Love our main downtown Library, it really has everything to offer anyone who visits here.
I have been going there since 1997 and the library is well taken care of. The staff are friendly and helpful.
I love this location. The building itself is elegant and charming, and the children's area is expansive and will keep your kiddos occupied for hours! I love the monthly family events and the used book store.
This is one of my favorite public libraries in Milwaukee. The building is large and has several sections. The children's section is adorable. They have blocks for kids, a smal tower that kids can play inside, puppets that can be borrowed as well, and lots of books in a variety of different languages including Arabic children's book. Staff are friendly and very helpful. In the summer, they have a reading program for both children and adults. My child and little brother loved the reading program/ challenge and felt competent due to very encouraging words they received from staff and also the prizes they got.
The library was nice but theres barely any parking and you have to pay to park so be prepared.

I like the Milwaukee Public Library. The staff are really professional and helpful. The only thing I didn't like was that the front doors to the main entrance had a sign saying "go to the wells entrance" probably due to Covid 19. It should be more specific because it was kind of hard to find our way to get in, but once we got in the building and settled, everything went phenomenal! Lots of computers, printers, and of course books! They even have movies to check-out and DVDs. It's easy to get a library card as well, and they are good with helping you get signed up and getting one. I will definitely go back again.
They threw out a journalist for taking pictures...kinda sad when a library doesn't understand the first amendment. That or they have something to hide from the public...we will never actually know, because apparently the press isn't allowed to gather information on them...I wonder if they have the book, "1984" in stock...
Kujos to the great Milwaukee Public Library! The library holds a massive collection of books, art, magazines as well as many other educational to it`s patrons. The library deserves great credit for maintaining a high class posture while sitting in the heart of the grubbiest part of downtown and constantly giving reluctant shelter to a mass of downtown homeless who have nothing better to door won`t do than sit in the library making pretend that they are actually reading. Anyone remember that bathroom in the basement? Or even that one off to the right when you come in the main door that was closed a long time ago??? With bathrooms like that you`re better off in an outhouse! My congrats to the library staff who try to deliver small town helpfullness while working in the heart of the urban jungle!
