Designed for individuals with a non accounting degree, the Certificate of Advanced Accounting Proficiency program fosters an intimate learning environment with high-quality faculty, and grants the necessary accounting units to sit for the CPA exam.
The CAAP program is a certificate program: we offer a certificate in advanced accounting proficiency. We are now in our 16th year and we have about 130 graduates per year.
In addition to offering the expertise of tenured, Ph.D. level, faculty, we provide the opportunities for you to meet recruiters and become better known in the job market. This includes creating a resume book and hosting two recruitment events. All of the major CPA firms in the Bay Area recruit students from our program. Each group of students takes the courses as part of a cohort: each class consists of the same students who take the classes in the same sequences. We currently have four cohorts:
Summer Program: Students in the summer program take the courses between June and September. Students meet in class each day for four hours: from 9am-1pm (cohort 1) or 3:30-7:30pm (cohort 2). Each course lasts 8 or nine consecutive days for four hours each day. After one course ends, the next course begins. Of course, students must study every day to keep up with the coursework. The benefit of this program is that you can complete the accounting units for the CPA exam within one summer. We do not recommend this program for students who are working.
Weekend Program: Students in the weekend program take the courses for about nine months (from October through June) on either Saturdays (cohort 1) or Sunday (cohort 2). Students meet in class on either Saturday or Sunday (not both) for eight hours each day: from 9am-6pm with a one-hour break. Each course lasts about five weeks. We also offer the optional intro course for the sequence in September. After one course ends, the next course begins. The benefit of this program is that you can complete the accounting units for the CPA exam within one year while working on weekdays.
The CAAP Program was designed for individuals with a non accounting degree, fosters an intimate learning environment with high-quality faculty, and grants the necessary accounting units to sit for the CPA exam.
SUMMER PROGRAM
Students in the summer program take 45 quarter units of accounting courses for about three-and-one-half months (from June through September), meeting every weekday from 9:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. (AM cohort) or 2:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. (PM cohort). Each course lasts eight or nine consecutive days, Monday-Friday. The courses and the rigor are the same as those in our undergraduate accounting program. You can count on several hours of homework each night. Because of the intense nature of the courses, we recommend that students do not work while enrolled in this program.
WEEKEND PROGRAM
Students in the weekend program take the courses for about ten months (from late August or early September through June) on either Saturdays (cohort 1) or Sunday (cohort 2). Students meet in class on either Saturday or Sunday for eight hours each day from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. with a one-hour break. Each course lasts about five weeks. After one course ends, the next course begins. The benefit of this program is that you can complete the accounting units for the CPA exam within one year while working on weekdays. The weekend program is designed for students who work full-time. However, you can expect about 20 hours of homework each week.
