Chabot College is a learning-centered institution with a culture of thoughtfulness and academic excellence, committed to creating a vibrant community of life-long learners.
Chabot College was the first college opened by the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District. The formation of a “junior college district” was approved by the voters on January 10, 1961, and the first board of trustees elected on April 18, 1961. Chabot opened for classes on September 11, 1961, on a 7.5-acre (30,000 m2) temporary site in San Leandro with an enrollment of 1,163 students. The first day of classes on the current 94-acre site on Hesperian Boulevard in Hayward was September 20, 1965. Chabot primarily serves residents of Alameda County in the East Bay area, including the district communities of Hayward, Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Union City. Chabot has an enrollment of over 14,500 students from over 25 countries and all continents, including Argentina, Belize, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Denmark, Fiji, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, South Korea, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
