Chef and owner, Michel, began his culinary career as an apprentice in Basel, Switzerland. Soon enough, he started traveling the world, working in many different restaurants from Bermuda to New Zealand - perfecting his technique and skills. He couldn't help but fall completely in love with Vermont when he visited for skiing at Bromley Mountain and, after traveling for some time, he decided to open his very own place in a converted dairy barn in East Dorset in 1982. Chantecleer was quickly recognized for fine dining throughout the Manchester area. Since then Michel and his wife, Melanie, have expanded the interior space and added new seasonal dishes while keeping old customer-favorites like his homemade spaetzle and schnitzel always on the menu.
