Four Pillars of Education: Project-based Learning, Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy, Leadership through Outdoor Education, and Creativity and Arts

Description

Nestled under grand, moss-laden live oaks, Charleston Collegiate School offers a thirty-acre campus of vast playing fields and wooded trails. Located only twenty minutes from Charleston’s sophisticated historic district on one side and Kiawah Island on the other, the school stands in the middle of the rural beauty of John's Island. Originally called Sea Island Academy, the school was founded in 1970 to serve local families who valued quality education. As the school grew, a decision was made to focus its energies on a more rigorous, college-oriented curriculum, and in 2002, it was renamed the Charleston Collegiate School. Because of its unique location and its far more diversified population, Charleston Collegiate attracts students from far-reaching areas such as Daniel Island, Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, the Isle of Palms, and Summerville.

The Charleston Collegiate environment values creativity, compassion for others, a passion for learning, and vibrant diversity. Charleston Collegiate School is a nonsectarian, independent school organized as a Lower School (PS-4), Middle School (5-8), and Upper School (9-12). Charleston Collegiate utilizes a Four Pillars of Learning curriculum: Project-based Learning, Fine Arts and Creativity, Leadership through Outdoor Education, and Entrepreneurship.

In addition to a core of remarkably talented, seasoned teachers, the predominantly young faculty at Charleston Collegiate School reflects a dedication to the idea of developing an extraordinary academic environment, sensitive to future needs. Almost 75% of our faculty have Masters Degrees or PhDs. There is a healthy range in age and experience; most teachers are 25-35 years old and bring strong teaching experience.

CCS is the only co-educational, non-sectarian, preschool through 12th grade, independent school in the metropolitan area; this distinction has allowed the school to be far more diverse, with a minority enrollment of almost 25%. CCS is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The school is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), the South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA), the Palmetto Association of Independent Schools (PAIS), the National Center for Independent School Renewal (NCISR), the Education Records Bureau, and the Coalition of Essential Schools.

As a mom of 3 students at Charleston Collegiate I can not say enough wonderful things. The teachers and staff have become a part of our extended family. All of my kids go to school excited to learn and experience whatever the day may bring. Project based learning has engaged my children in the learning process, they are retaining the information being taught and come home telling me about it. I am so happy our family found Charleston Collegiate.
Our child has been at Charleston Collegiate for three years and we are so amazed at how much we grow as a family through this relationship. The school's approach to learning allows our child to look forward to school everyday. He is eager to participate and make a difference in whatever effort he is presented in class. Charleston Collegiate is a school that thrives on relationships, encorporating family into the bonds that are created. Our son has gained confidence through a program that matches younger students with older students to allow flow throughout campus. We cannot say enough about this school, if you are looking for a home, please check them out.
My child is almost finished with kindergarten at CCS, and I can't say enough about the wonderful teachers he's had this year. The administrators and staff are kind and nurturing. His class is small and he has been given assignments tailored to his individual needs. I love how often students are on the move: between music, Spanish, art, PE, garden time, recess, and Outdoor Education class, they really stay active and engaged. The lunch program is great, too! I highly recommend CCS.
Loving the teacher ,students and class sizes at this school. No to mention the the specials twice a week. Plus all the extras like character building, yoga classes and outdoor classrooms. We toured many other schools but half way through the tour we looked at each other and said this is the one!
We have an adhd/ocd child and this was not the school for him. Some of the teachers simply did not have the experience of dealing with this type of student. So he left and went public for high school. First time SATs 1280. Thanks to DD2, but no thanks to CCS
A wonderful community and an incredible place for your child to learn! The teachers and staff are the best in Charleston!
Excellent teachers and staff, nice class sizes.
