Charlie Thiel is a successful businessman and a powerful advocate for our local community.
Throughout his 20s and 30s, Charlie worked with young people as a Social Worker and Mentor. In 2004, Charlie began working for Communication Systems, Inc. (CSi; https://comsysinc.com/) as a Project Manager.
Charlie progressed through the ranks at CSi as Director of Operations, General Manager, and Vice-President of Business Development. Charlie led the company through a transformation from the analog world into the digital world, increasing organizational awareness of the combined value of people, business, and technology. He successfully worked with CSi’s many clients to hone and achieve the safety and security aspects of their missions, including B. Braun, Dorney Park, Lehigh Valley International Airport, UGI, the Bethlehem School District, Freshpet, and several police departments including Allentown, Emmaus, South Whitehall, Salisbury Township, and Scranton. In Allentown, he worked with the Police Department and community partners to develop the City’s security surveillance camera system.
Outside of his professional roles, Charlie’s energy and efforts center on serving and improving the city of Allentown. In October 2013, he was appointed to the Allentown School Board to fill the unexpired term of Julie Ambrose, and he was elected to his current position as School Board Director in 2015.
Currently the president of the Allentown Chamber of Commerce, Charlie’s extensive community involvement also includes membership on the boards of the Allentown School District Foundation (since 2010), the Allentown Community Development Advisory Board, the Allentown Blighted Property Review Board, and the Allentown Disruptive Conduct Board of Appeals. He also serves on the Joint Operating Committee of the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute.
Charlie and his wife, Annette, have raised two children in Allentown, both of whom attended schools in the Allentown School District. Alexis is now a senior at Moravian College, and Andrew is a senior at Shippensburg University.
In his free time, Charlie enjoys reading, running, hiking and playing guitar.
