Charlottesville City School CLASS Program (Creating Learning After School and Summer) provides a stimulating, fun environment for students who attend.
CLASS began in 1976 when working parents of Jackson-Via Elementary School requested an after-school enrichment program from the Charlottesville City School Board. Over the next several years, CLASS expanded to all Charlottesville City elementary schools. At Walker Upper Elementary School, CLASS complements the EDGE after-school clubs and offers a before-school enrichment program. CLASS also offers a summer program for elementary-aged students.
CLASS staff are trained educators with a passion for expanding young minds. Activites are designed to engage each child’s mind, body, and creative spirit. Following semester-long themes such as “Creativity at Work” and “Caring for the Earth,” children explore a range of experiences, including drama, sports, science, cooking, music, arts, field trips, and games. Through the support and encouragement of staff, children learn to value their own individuality while recognizing and celebrating the uniqueness of others.
The mission of the Charlottesville City Schools CLASS program is to create a safe, reliable, and caring learning environment for students and their families.
The CLASS Program (Creating Learning After School and Summer) provides a stimulating, fun environment after school, on school planning and early release days, and during the summer break at all six Charlottesville City elementary schools and at Walker Upper Elementary. A morning CLASS program is offered at Walker (with sufficient enrollment).
CLASS tuition is based on family income, full or part-time enrollment, and services required. For more information, visit charlottesvilleschools.org/CLASS
