Chatsworth Hills Academy is a Preschool-8th grade school pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
Chatsworth Hills Academy, enrolling students age 2 through grade 8, is the San Fernando Valley's first candidate school to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate curriculum to students in primary and middle school. We are a college preparatory school with a commitment to developing critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills in our students.
At all levels of our program, we strive to give our students the freedom to explore, ask questions, and grow. Small class sizes, close student-teacher relationships, and flexible learning tasks that incorporate student voice encourage an individually tailored approach to education, while the integration of technology and the arts helps to reinforce our learn-by-doing approach.
• Early Childhood: Our early childhood program centers on helping students develop a deep-seated love of learning as well as vital social skills that they need to thrive. Fun activities like Circle Time, Exploration Time, Music and Movement, Art, Story Time, Physical Education, Spanish, and Nature Walks engage the children’s hearts and minds while also showing them that school is a place where they can feel safe and succeed.
• Lower School: Lower school is focused on helping every child develop into a principled, knowledgeable individual with strong skills in thinking critically and creatively, communication, and collaboration. Students develop their education through traditional disciplines like language arts, math, science, social studies, technology, music, art, and Spanish, while also expanding their horizons through International Baccalaureate units of inquiry, performances, projects, and stewardship of the campus. With small class sizes, a stimulating curriculum, and a nurturing classroom environment, lower school prepares students for the next leg of their academic journey.
• Middle School: Middle school at CHA has our students use the skills and interests they've developed to facilitate a period of profound developmental growth. Students move into departmentalized instruction, with different teachers for each of their classes over the course of the day. Middle school students have a greater voice in in their affairs, and venture off campus for competitive activities such as Mock Trial and Model U.N. or class trips to Catalina, Yosemite, and Washington, D.C. Middle school is designed to develop the maturity of our oldest students as they transition into adolescence. Each eighth grade student is prepared for successful admission to selective secondary schools and later to similar level colleges and universities.
As a member of the National Association of Independent Schools and accredited by both the California Association of Independent Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, CHA is committed to each of the Independent School principles and values expressed below:
Independent schools are independent because they are not for profit, have distinct missions, and are primarily supported by tuition payments, charitable contributions, and endowment revenue.
Independent schools meet high accreditation standards and are held accountable by their Board of Trustees rather than being privately owned and/or operated by an individual proprietor, partnership, or corporation.
Independent schools are successful due to:
* Close-knit communities.
* Individualized attention for students.
* Supportive learning environments.
* High-quality and committed teachers.
* Hands-on learning opportunities.
* Educational experiences beyond the classroom.
* Actively engaged parents.
As in all independent schools, CHA students pursue an education that nurtures intellectual curiosity, stimulates personal growth, and encourages critical thinking and innovation. Our teachers create educational experiences that meet the individual needs of each child. Girls and boys are a part of a supportive learning community where the lessons that each student learns on the playing field or theater stage and in community service are as important as those in the classroom. The selective student body is motivated to be enthusiastic and creative about learning within the academically rigorous environment where students are focused on future enrollment at selective secondary schools.
CHA is an extraordinary place filled with extraordinary people! If you haven't been on our beautiful campus, call for a visit and a personal tour. We look forward to seeing you!
