Chava is the "nick name" in Mexico for a guy named Salvador.
Salvador Ybarra is the source of Chava's family recipes and the grandfather of Chris Ybarra, the owner of the Soulard location. The menu is based on Salvador's native Guadalajara and traditional Mexican cuisine.
Chava's original location in historic Soulard just south of downtown St. Louis was opened in 2006 and quickly became known across the city for it's authentic dishes and warm hospitality.
Our location in Edwardsville was opened in June of 2013 by Chris' sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Brue Bohannon who call Illinois home and are thrilled to bring their family's recipes to the community.
