Summary: 3.5 of 5 Stars - Rounded up to 4 Stars because I believe in this Restaurant Atmosphere: 1.25 of 2 Stars Food: 1.25 of 2 Stars Staff: 1 of 1 Star SUMMARY: In one word, I would describe Cheng Du as neglected. I decided not to penalize this restaurant with a low review because I believe in it. This is a call out to the owner to remind them of what a beautiful restaurant they have. With a little love, attention and elbow grease, Cheng Du has the potential to, once again, be amazing. The foundation for greatness is there it just needs someone who cares, to bring life back into the establishment. My wife and I stopped at this conveniently located Rt. 9 West Chinese restaurant on our way back to Worcester from Boston. The atmosphere was a bit in shambles and the food was ok. The staff was very kind and they did a pretty good job with service. ATMOSPHERE: The lighting, décor and artwork, were all beautiful. I appreciated the dark wood flooring which complemented the brighter and colorful walls. I was also a fan of the authentic Chinese art and sculptures scattered throughout. As I stated previously, the foundation is here. If management put some time into cleaning up the place, I have no doubt they’ll see a major improvement in customer satisfaction and in the business overall. FOOD: The variety of options was promising, the presentation was lovely and overall, we enjoyed our food but it was clear that there was no, dare I say the word, passion. The environment overall felt a bit lifeless, and it reflected in the food. If the kitchen can get it together and re-ignite the spark, I really believe that Cheng Du has the cooking expertise to dish out some appealing plates. STAFF: Our server and his partner did a great job overall. The food was brought out in a very timely and structured manner. We both appreciated that there wasn’t a long wait between the courses. I also appreciated that my waiter did refill my water without me asking. The service took a bit of a dip after all the food was delivered. The attention to our table disappeared but our waiters partner came and got us checked out.
Food was really good, I would come back, the picture is the chicken and phoenix, loved the cute mushrooms. Egg drop and wonton soups, plus scorpion for 2.Food: 5/5
Have driven by numerous times and wanted to try. The service was absolutely lack luster. We were seated a rather large corner booth, behind a larger party whom had about 8 people.. the waitress, whom was trying her best, was more focused on clearing tables and the guests at the bar than us in the corner.. the food was not memorable at all. The "authentic" Chinese dish was so bland and tasteless.. despite the "spicy" rating.. we also order scallion pancakes and steam pork buns, the pancakes were grossly undercooked and doughy... we didn't see our waitress at all after the food was delivered, as a matter of fact, we sat there waiting for her to check on us, and after waiting about 20 minutes, I had to chase after her to get the check so we could pay and leave.. the service is awful, the food is not good at all.. the atmosphere is lackluster and tired..
Hands down the best Chinese food in the area!! Serving sizes are much larger and higher quality compared to other similar restaurants. Large dinner and drink menu and good service. It’s worth the longer drive for the food and service.
Love coming here -- the service is always good, the drinks are delicious and strong! and the food is always fresh, hot, and tasty! Shout-out to the Planter's Lunch - it's as if the little surfing dude on the bottle of Hawaiian Punch went to college.
The restaurant is really nice and very clean. The food is great, very tasty. The Kung Pao chicken was a little dry. The older woman who greeted us and gave us our take out order was not very friendly and was very short with people on the phone who were calling in orders. Try and remember it's about the food and customer service...Food: 4/5
Best Chinese food I have had in a really long time! The delivery was great, with the food delivered in a restaurant branded bag which was a really nice touch. Wonton soup was very flavorful and was a beef base, which was a first for me and I really enjoyed it! Chicken fried rice and Sichuan chicken were very hot and delicious! Highly recommend and I look forward to my next visit in Westborough to order from here again!
Standard fare. Our party got the Chow Foon, Crab Rangoon, and a few other dishes. The food was slightly bland but otherwise pretty solid. Tip: if you're sitting down and ordering, skip the mocktails, the cup is mostly ice and very little drink I got the virgin strawberry daiquiri. 6
What a weird and terrible experience. Came in with large group. Ordered alcoholic drinks 1 Mai Tai 3 wines. Apparently the bar tender wasn't SPEAKING TO THE WAIT STAFF and wouldn't make the drinks. We sat there without drinks and without WATER for 44 mins. I went to my car and brought my own bottle of water in. The waiter was a clueless weirdo. When we got our food an hour later, of course it was messed up. Terrible place ran by terrible people. Chang du? More like CHANG DONT.
