About

Cherokee County Historical Museum

"The museum was founded in 1977 and is in the Carnegie Library building that was built in 1922. We have a lot of locally donated items upstairs and our downstairs is the Trial of Tears Interpretation Center. We also have items in display cases located at the airport in Andrews and at the Cherokee County Courthouse next door to the museum. The courthouse was completed in 1927 and was built from locally quarried marble, which is called Regal blue marble from Regal Street. The museum has a handicap entrance which is located to the left up the steps, you have to ring the doorbell and someone will let you in and you can ride the elevator to the top floor. For further information please call the museum."

Nice museum, but parking is very limited, so you will most likely need to walk a bit. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. There are a lot of different items from farming tools to guns and military uniforms.
Staff was very friendly, very helpful and accommodating for photos/videos inside. They do have an elevator available for disabled/handicap visitors. A LOT to see, quite enjoyable!
Cute little museum. Lots of local history and information. Kids were amused that only unmarried woman could be teachers way back when. Learned a lot about the Trail of Tears. Great activity for kids and rainy days.
Has some really super cool exhibits, very interesting and I learned a lot! I love the way it is all laid out. The lady in charge was very knowledgeable and very friendly!

Nice, local museum with lots of local artifacts and information connecting the area to history. Trail of Tears covered very well. Dozens and dozens of arrowheads on display as well as period clothing, tools and much more. Well worth the $3 fee.

Took an impromptu visit because my husband wanted to buy ammo at a store down the street. The kids and I loved it. So many interesting artifacts. Has both upstairs and downstairs filled with all sorts of stuff. The lady at the front desk was very nice and informative.
Very cool place. Lots of history and very interesting artifacts. Highly recommend checking it out if your in downtown Murphy. Very quaint town with friendly people, me and my family plan to go back every year for Thanksgiving and time away the hustle and bustle of Florida living. People at the museum very nice and knowledgeable about the history of the town and area.
Fantastic collection with photos of many local donars and their respective item. Great personal touch. There is something to interest everyone: military uniforms, period clothing, medical paraphernalia and instruments, household items, dolls, Cherokee relics and historical documents, even an old monopoly game!
