Chestnut Ridge Metro Park

Description

Chestnut Ridge is the first ridge in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The ridge spans about 4,500 feet and rises to about 1,116 feet. Black oak, shagbark hickory and northern red oak trees grow on the upper slopes of the ridge and enhance the woodland beauty of the 486-acre park. Sugar maples and American beech are plentiful on the lower slopes.

Fantastic intermediate skill mtb park. Great cross county trails with some advanced features.. There is a great optional jump line at the top of the park that will make anyone smile. This is not close to any stores, so bring what you need to drink or eat.
If you want a beautiful and challenging trail, go here. I did 2.5 miles but walked up hill which equaled out to about 25 flights of stairs. It was mostly shaded and plenty of benches to sit and rest I needed it lol. Very beautiful and will definitely come back. Note: Pets and bikes are not allowed on the nature trail itself but it did look like there was a path for dogs. I personally love no bike trails so this was very nice.
One of the cleanest, well kept parks I've been to. Very safe, secluded and calm. And an insane amount of squirrels and chipmunks that have no fear lol.
We met our Granddaughter and Great Grandson at the park. It was too chilly for him to play on the playground so we took the trail. It's scenery is beautiful regardless of the time of year. It's a healthy walk up and down the hill top. Our Grandchildren have enjoyed fishing and throwing back the fish in the pond throughout rhe years. One if them caught his first fish here. We always have great times here.
Compared to other metro parks in Columbus, this one is the worst in terms of signals. There is a map but that kind that is mostly a drawing only and it is hard to find the right paths or trails you really need. There is only one trail for dogs, extremely short and also some parts are not maintained - lots of semi-dark black water and no place to wash the dirt off. Pets are not allowed on natural trails but the one assigned is actually grass. This park is good for just human-alone hikes and for mountain bicycle activities . So I do not recommend it for dogs, but yes for other activities. The overall lack of signs along the entrances and inside the trails is noticeable.
We love this park! It's is so beautiful! You have several options for the trail. You can take the long trail or cut it short for little legs. We like to walk the trail, see the many look outs then off to the playground. The playground was updated a few years ago and is really nice for the kiddos. It has tunnels, several slides, swings including one for special needs children, and a natural area with tree trunks. It also features several picnic tables, and is far enough from the pond, but close enough to the bathroom. The park has a rich historical history with many educational checkpoints along the trail. If you love blending nature and play, you will not be sorry you checked this place out!
Beautiful place to walk, fish, and just relax!
I've hiked the trails at Chestnut Ridge before but never really took the time to explore the wetlands area of the park. Today I did and was surprised by how beautiful and well maintained it is.
I wasn't sure how much this park would have to offer being on the smaller side but was impressed with the trails and how clean everything was. There were several animals visible from the observation deck while we were there and the trails we walked were well maintained. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the sign that said we would be able to see downtown Columbus from one of the overlooks but when we got there it was not visible due to tree coverage. I assume it would be visible in the winter though as it was a really gorgeous spot. There is also a playground for the kiddos and a couple of small fishing piers that would be a perfect place to teach a kid to fish. All in all this is a great park.
Beautiful place. My husband proposed to me her 19 years ago so it was nice Coming back. We saw a deer on the trail so that was great as well as the expected squirrels and chipmunks!
