The Chicago Project on Security and Terrorism (CPOST) is an international security affairs research institute based at the University of Chicago.
The Chicago Project on Security and Threats (CPOST) aims to close the knowledge gap on international security related to militant groups and strategic threats.
Drawing on the diverse expertise found at the University of Chicago, CPOST uses team research to find counterintuitive solutions to complex threats. We are creating a non-partisan open source toolkit to better address emerging threats for government and corporate partners, while training students to become the next generation of difference makers in policy, business, the military and academia.
Founded by Dr. Robert Pape on the back of the world’s most complete database of Suicide Attacks, CPOST pursues empirically-based research without ignoring the human element.
CPOST data led Dr. Pape, and the center, to identify foreign occupation as the main driver of suicide terrorism and warn against the invasion of Iraq. Since then, CPOST has had a massive impact with over a dozen years of grant funding, numerous publications and events, providing US policy makers the tools to make informed decisions.
