I have only been to this place one time. Took the membership free and got a book to read. Seems like a smaller library. There is a small parking lot or you can do paid street parking as well. There are study rooms you can rent out. You can get printouts for a small fee. There is a children’s section on the lower floor as well.
Four months ago, when I visited there for firs time, I wrote a good review which can read in bottom. But now I am here and the library desks in the bad states of cleanliness. If you look at the recently photos you will see that I mean. It seems this desks haven't cleaned in months. I like it very much. The ground floor is the entrance to the library and there are books for children and teenagers. Books and computers for general use by children and adolescents are on the same floor. On the first floor there are youth books and above, as well as study desks and computers for adults. There are also thirty dubs of movies and science documentaries.
Been coming here for several years to write. MUST have music and headphones. The librarian is loud. I can understand the homeless and near homeless patrons having issues with less than controlled sounds and movements. But the librarian? There are also assigned computer tutors who are not always the quietest. And they do not reserve the private rooms available. And then, the security guard is very surly. Yet, if there is a real need for security she seems helpless. A gentleman had a violent outbreak once and all she could do was stand over him and shush him. The outbreak continued for a while. I left. Went shopping at Wholefoods, and as I left, finally, I saw there were CPD officers working with/helping the man. Today just broke my patience for the place. I have a weak bladder ever since pregnancy and childbirth and had to use the bathroom .The cleaning person had just finished cleaning the upstairs bathrooms and floor outside them. She put up a sign "Caution - Wet Floor." Since I felt capable of being cautious and didn't want to leave my papers and books upstairs to use the downstairs facilities, I proceeded with caution. She barked at me. "Use the downstairs!" I looked at the sign again and, being a writer wanted to explain the error of either her outburst or the sign, but settled for, "I don't want to leave all my things up here." She just scowled at me like I was privleged. I went downstairs. So unnecessary and unpleasant. Meanwhile, the noise level continues to out perform my headphones. Finding a new place to write asap.
Good overall, but I admit I was a little annoyed today when I came to the library 27 minutes before closing and couldn't log on to any computer. All I needed to do was print out ONE page, it would've taken like 2 minutes. I just think not letting you use any computer for half an hour before closing is excessive. I could understand if it was like 10 minutes to close. And of course they don't have an express computer like some libraries do.
Helpful! Great location, free parking on their lot, and ample hours this location has. Garrett, one of the adult department librarians, and the rest of the staff are attentive and knowledgeable. This location has a vast children’s section and it’s quiet and safe.
Normally, I enjoy working and studying there. Great edifice and workers are generally helpful when assistance is needed. Attended a lecture for the first time that I thought would be interesting. Apparently, there's a group of people that frequent these events that aren't comfortable with 'outsiders' coming into 'their space'. They decided to extend microagressions and stink-faces. Also, the speaker presented the typical lop-sided, negative narrative of Africa to turn people off from going there. Nice try...
I stopped in to use the wifi, recharge my phone and cool off. This is a cute library branch with friendly staff.
The Edgewater Branch library is the best library in the entire Chicago area. The librarians in this branch are super friendly, always smiling, goes above and beyond to help you with any issues you may have. This location has two floors 1st floor has a children's computer area with bathrooms. Second floor has adult computer area, along with two study rooms,as well as bathrooms, you may also get help with using the computer with a librarian on specific days. They also have bike racks outside the library, which is great for bikers. My favorite staff are Christine, and Katy, and the security guard when she is on duty Annette, I love these particular ladies they always, smile go above and beyond to do there job, I'm happy to be in there presence when I come to the library. Thank you!
