I've stayed here twice; once in the lower lodge with my best friend in spring and once in the north 40 cabins in winter by myself. Both accommodations were good and felt safe for females as a girls' trip or solo travel. The nightly rate is very affordable, in my opinion. For those who like a quieter atmosphere, I definitely experienced that, I don't recall hearing the neighbors other than them walking by. I loved the covered patio seating outside of the rooms to enjoy the cold and beautiful snow. The food in the dining room for a nicer meal was good. I've spent most meals at the Chico Saloon as the atmosphere is great and it has a walkway to the pools. The jalapeno poppers with the huckleberry jam are delicious. The burgers/sandwiches, salads, and wings are all very good. The bartenders and staff are all very sweet and have great memories. The pools are amazing. I'm from Southern California and don't get to experience snow often. The first night that we were there in April, it snowed while we sat in the big pool, and I can't tell you how magical it was. The big pool is a nice temperature, but if you're looking for something warmer, go in the smaller pool as it is hotter and closer to the walk-up bar window. It's a pretty quick drive from Bozeman airport, weather permitting, of course, and a quick drive down to the North entrance of Yellowstone. I can't wait to be back in the hot springs with a beer in hand.
We were here for a wedding and stayed in one of the cabins. The cabin itself was away from the rest of the lodges and backed up to the cow pasture which was a nice way to wake up in the morning, cows mooing in the distance. The cabin was spacious, comfortable bed, had an awesome large could fit two people deep bathtub with jets. The hot springs at the main lodge are right by the saloon and cleaned and drained every night. The pool is very warm, I thought that was the hot tub until I got in the hot tub. Food was good and large portions at the poolside grill. Everyone was very nice. Lovely place for a wedding with great views. Breakfast and some of the activities are quite expensive. Some of the things in the cabin didn’t work great like the iron, but seems like a small fix. Seems like a relatively close drive if you were staying in Yellowstone, it took us about an hour from the north gate when we left the park. Very little cell service which is nice, main area has WiFi. Had a little library if you needed to do some work or school stuff.
Staying overnight in a chalet on the hill. View is amazing. Dinner in the restaurant was the best! Make sure you buy their cookbook and take a tour of the beautiful vegetable gardens. It's a wonderful culinary experience.Rooms: 4/5
Quaint resort that has been around since the 1900s with hot spring pool. Pros: Beautiful location with breathtaking views around the resort. Pets are allowed in resort. The guests are awesome- their are many regulars that come annually and are very friendly. Chico obviously has a dedicated customer base and it shows in the camaraderie of the guests. Food in both restaurants was delicious. Cons: Pets are not allowed in pool area or restaurants. There is no service for pet daycare. Be ready to split off from your group in order to pet sit. No air conditioning or private bathrooms in the main lodge housing. Hot springs pool is not a “relaxing style” environment but more so a public pool type of environment. Just be aware of that in case you were looking for a “quiet” experience- this place won’t be for you. They have a bar by the pool so lots of people hanging out in the hot springs pool drinking, eating and also very kid and family friendly. The night we stayed some loud people yelling in the courtyard in the middle of the night kept us up. Not sure if this happens all the time or if it was a random occurrence. Food & drinks: Cute gift shop with coffee bar available for your morning coffee and tea!
Had a lovely stay at Chico for a conference in July. Not all of the rooms have bathrooms, but they're only a short walk down the hallway depending on what room you're in. For the price of staying in an older room, I didn't mind at all. Also some rooms have sinks. The hot springs are more of a public pool depending on the time of day you go, but it was still great to relax in the warm water. I didn't get a chance to try the restaurant unfortunately. I enjoyed exploring the grounds on horseback and just by walking around myself. The location to the north entrance of Yellowstone was absolutely perfect for us.
I've stayed here about eight times over 15 years. It's my special place for happiness. There are better hot spring facilities and there are better hotels but the ambiance and staff and experience is the best. Did I mention they let you drink alcohol around the pool? Also, the restaurant is an amazing four to five star experience and there's no other competition for that around here. It was recently sold but the rumor has it that the new owner is a long time visitor and plans to keep it the same. Let's hope so.
We only did a “day pass” for use of the hot springs and pool. It was great. The hot pool was about 101 degrees and the big pool was about 93. Very relaxing, even though there were some couples with young kids the vibe was very casual and respectful. Nice to get drinks from the bar, to sip in the pool! Worth a quick stop/soak. The bar was cowboy cool and hats nailed to the entire ceiling. The hotel looked casual, but we did not stay there. VictorB
Wonderful, historic, some buildings made of stone. Of course large hot springs pool for soaking. Not far from Yellowstone or Livingston MT. Horse rides available. That does cause a fly problem for some of the lower lodge rooms. Fly swatters would be nice. Room 409 on lower lodge has to deal with noise from vending machines next door. Overall, good place to relax for a few days, maybe hike or fish or read a book on the lawn. No TV at least in our room so, entertain yourself
I only came for the pool so I can't rate any other accommodations. The hot pool and warm pool were both good size, clean, bathrooms were pretty clean though some of the locks on the stalls didn't work, and the bar and grill were convenient. The huckleberry ice cream was ok but not great. There was plenty of parking. The main thing missing in my opinion was a cool pool. The air was 90 degrees so a way to cool down would have been nice. There seemed to be almost enough chairs and lounges but not enough shade. For $12, I'm not sure I'd return.
Second time I’ve come. Nice location, some 40 mins out of the north entrance of Yellowstone NP. It has a charming old-style vibe, partly because it is old. The rooms are OK and excellently priced $100 for a 2 doubles, without bathroom in the room. Love the hot spring pools, relaxing and fun for children and adults alike. The restaurant is very reliable too, if a little pricey. Warmly recommend the small quiet bar at the end of the restaurant, where we waited for our table. Did not check out the Saloon, but that looked fun too.
